I keep going back to the pictures over and over again.
It is everything all the other guys have said and more.
You must be rightfully proud of this magnificent work of art.
Truly inspiring.
I agree this work needs a much wider audience but thanks to the Treefrog forum for letting us have the chance to see it.

I love to see where this hobby has gone...Many years ago I would say .....Lets "Get real" in this hobby...and many looked at me like I had two heads......This is not toy soldiers any more....This is a hobby of realistic Military Miniatures....Those of us who do this work keep upping the bar Joe Baker, Rod Debrito, Hudson and Allen, The wonderful Civil War Cronicles and many other fabulous achievements. This is another example of where we can take this hobby...Excellent work. Alex

Sorry Bat, I disagree with ya, it is toy soldiers not matter how you display them or call them, and the fact that in my little toy soldier world all of my displays are fun to me, maybe not as good as others but very enjoyable to me, so whether it's a full blown 2,000 dollar dio, or a 150.00 do it myself dio, it's all good, I understand what your saying, but just stating not every dio needs to be in the 'GET REAL" world to be enjoyed...Sammy

There are also big differences in the abilities of collectors who build scenes. For some, a couple of trees and bits and bobs like that is fine and, enhances their collections others, wish to be a bit more adventurous.

Although, I like stunning large dio's sometimes the figures get lost in them and, sort of put secondary to the display. I know many collectors who buy pieces, not really caring about the set per se but, more about how they want it repainted and, what dioramic setting it will be placed in.

Agree 100%; this is the beauty of the hobby, all of the commercially available items from Build A Rama and JG Miniatures among others allow collectors to build scenes using them, while others like this incredible work of art here is all scratch built. In the end, as long as the collector enjoys his collection, this is the end game afterall.

The " Get Real " I was refering to was the manufacturers making soldiers and vehicles more realistic. I can't call them Toy Soldiers, it just personally creeps me out.

As George said above there are so many accessories out there that you can make a realistic scene fairly easily, so that kind of solves that problem. And lastly challenge yourself to do the best you can next time you do a setup, it is very rewarding.

I personally have become so obsessed with the filming of the settings we create, I almost dont like them in person any more. Yea I know that is pretty weird, but as George also said above enjoy this hobby as you see fit.

When I see this type of work and the work of others I mentioned it increases my interest in the hobby. I never thought BSP could build the St. Mere Eglise Church, we talked about it for years, but through hard work and determination we did it......WOW what a rush.

You probably have more talent than you think......... Alex

Alex is right; a lot of you have more talent than you think, all it takes is patience and practice.

Look through the pages of the diorama threads and the painted figures and vehicles and see how the work of some of the talented guys on this forum has evolved; Debrito, Carlos, Alex and Nick, Uk Reb, Mike Estell, Mitch, Tim, Kevin, the Lt, Guy, on and on it goes, everyones work gets better with each new diorama, each new project, each new challenge.

Half the fun of this hobby is getting hands on and creating your own displays and painting your own figures and vehicles. A wargamer friend of mine calls toy soldier collecting the ultimate do nothing hobby, ie, you buy the vehicle or figure, take it out of the box and stick it on a shelf and basically do nothing with it.

I told him I beg to differ, come to this forum and have a look at some of the displays and videos and works of art guys are creating FOR their toy soldiers.

He did and said he was wrong, there are some talented guys on this forum.

He is right; keep up the great work everyone...........as Alex says, keep challenging yourself to get better and better and the results will come.

And I saw the church he speaks of at the Hackensack show, it is incredible; he said a couple of people offered to buy it and he said no, he can't part with it and I don't blame him.

Thank you for posting more pictures on your Blog. It will give me much enjoyment carefully checking out each picture.

Can you please post a picture with you or someone standing beside the diorama to give us a sense of it size?

My whole collection is based on dioramic settings....which also works as a way to manage my budget. If it does not fit with a setting I have in mind I don't buy it.

This scene has impressive terrain and buildings which in my opinion enhance the figures, yes you look at the craftsmanship of the buildings, but it all balances. I have been accused of making my scenes too elaborate at times and that it takes away from the soldiers / vehicles, so I am familiar with that premice, but if an elaborate yet accurate scene has been made such as this one, it is depicting the enviornment the soldiers fought in, so be it.....I love it. Hi Alex ,
When you say this Hobby I'm guessing you are talking of the prepainted figures and such as Masters like Shep Paine have been Painting and Building Dioramas which even few today can touch IMO for over 40 Years .. Anyone else remember his Great work for Monogram back in the 70's ?? If you can make an old Monogram kit look good your the man .. :wink2:
There is know doubt about some of the talent on this forum .. but there is also no doubt some out of the box manufacturers still have a long way to go .. I'm sure my friend Guy would agree this dio would not be possible with anyone else but First Legion and thats why he post here.... so lets all set back and enjoy his creation which he made with out of the box figures and his own talent its just that good...Its a celebration of the glory that is First Legion Napoleonic line and Guys Talent.. No Hijacking please ...{bravo}} Regards Gebhard

Oh boy you cornered me on with your response...I have to be very careful how I answer. First of all this is an exceptional scene done with excellent FL figures.

In our Great Crusade Series for example I believe you can find many of the manufacturers figures vehicles and figures (Including FL) looking pretty darn impressive in some of the many ..many...many enviornments they were put in. But yes there is still room for the manufacturers to improve, especially in the eyes of us who grew up building monogram models and drooooling over Sheps creations. I think the manufacturers have come a long way though.

But all in all I am glad we are corresponding about the high end exploits of our hobby, which is my personal main interest. And we are discussing these aspects over a fine piece of work which I respect and get great pleasure in viewing. This stuff inspires me......and makes me enjoy the hobby more and more......how far will it go ? Both in works like this and the figures to complement it.

Encore mon ami, C’est Magnifique in all aspects. Like to ask a question: how long, average, took to you to put all this together?
