The British 7th Armoured Division was the only Allied Division to be fully equipped with Cromwells. Otherwise, Shermans were the most common tank in British armoured divisions with the speedy Cromwell commonly used as a reconnaissance tank by the reconnaissance regiments of the British armoured divisions.

The Cromwell was similarily used by the 1st Polish Armoured Division. The Czech Armoured Brigade also had some Cromwells. As far as I can tell, Canadian armoured divisions did not have Cromwells.

Here is a photo of the 10th PSK, 1st Polish armoured division, August 8, 1944 during Operation Totalize near Falaise. Note a column of Shermans and also a column of Cromwells ((peeking out from behind the pier ))

Much as i loathe the Nazi ideals you have to admire Military skill,Wittman had that big time.There is ongoing speculation why he never spotted those Shermans on the edge of that Orchard that day,probably racing to get where he was going is the answer.One of those quirks of fate in War wasn't it.Here we have possibly the most famous German Tank commander of all time,destroyed hundreds of Tanks,anti tank guns and all manner of AFV's,and in the process probably killed hundreds of Allied soldiers and crewmen.And yet his life was ended by young Trooper Joe Ekin who had only fired five rounds in anger,but his sixth was the big one!.

Ah, this discussion is a bit like which Tiger number was Wittmann driving at Villers Bocage.

Suffice to say it was a catastrophic hit. Blowing the turret off a Tiger is not trivial.
