I haven't voted in this poll as I think it's a personal choice. You should do what you want to do; if you think it's the right thing to do, then that's your decision. If not, that's also your decision.

Yes this is a good point,I wanted to gauge the opinion of friends and fellow collectors,I will use the sand as I see it as my own little tribute to those who gave all for our freedom.

I am not sure I am following you here but there is no need to argue. It's what happened there that makes that beach special not which layer of sand was there 65 years ago. The sand is part of the beach like a stone is part of a castle. You can replace a stone by another one from the same quarry to maintain/restaure a castle (we do that on French castles all the time) but with the goal to keep the architecture and style unchanged from the original. The same is true with the beach sand which gets created/renewed with tides and waves all the time. However any damaging alteration of any historical place affects its integrity IMO.
Well certainly I have no desire to argue with you either my friend; we Napoleonic collectors need to stick together.:D I do agree with your last statement and really I was just stating a set of facts with respect to the sand on the beach. As you seem to agree, it is not the same sand as in 1944 and taking any personal sized amount of sand from that beach today will have no damaging effect since it will almost immediately be replaced by natural forces. So I am simply stating that there is not issue of historical desecration in such an act.

Of course I also agree that it is Rob's choice and whatever he chooses will be right for him but he asked for our opinion so I gave mine.

Rob, it may not have been an 'I want' poll but as usual it raised some interesting and differing viewpoints  :D

Good for you for caring.

Btw, my grandfather didn't bring any sand back from WWI, I guess he saw enough of it in Egypt :D
