In the morning this quiet Dutch village is picturesque, civilians go about their daily lives, the farmer and his daughter are tending to their flock and a mother pushes her baby's pram and takes her daughter on a walk through the town after visiting the local sweety shop...

An old lady, on her way to her sister's house in the next village, stops in the middle of the road and squints towards the bridge, what's that on the bridge?

It's a father and son who tell of lots of German soldiers following close behind them.

The father and son continue on down the road...

...ten minutes later an engine can be heard and a blue car turns up with 3 men inside...

The car pulls up accross from the farm where the farmer and daughter were feeding their sheep.

2 german soldiers get out and walk over to the farm. They appear to speak to the farmer and then follow him into his cottage house....

Half an hour later more German soldiers appear, this time on foot crossing over the bridge. By now most of the civilians have fled to their homes to shelter from these barbarians, after all everyone knows what the germans have been like since their invasion in 1940.

One of the soldiers from the car comes out of the farmer's cottage and stands with his weapon in his arm and watches the others go by. Some of the newer arrivals sneer and stare at the man. Soon more vehicles come over the bridge, a convoy, which floods along the road and thorugh the village.

More and more vehicles appear and the civilians who peer from their windows wonder just what is happening!^&confuse

The old woman appears again and looks on sadly...

Elsewhere, the other man from the car appears with the farmer again...the Germans live up to their reputation...:rolleyes2:

After the vehicle convoy has passed through the town, the Germans decide to set up defenses at this side of the bridge in case of any enemy ground movement to the front, expecting not to have to use them given the fact that they are 60 miles behind the frontline.

Machine gun crews are ordered to their position in the farmer's field at the treeline, and water is being stored in the farmer's cottage. Tankers unload a truck loaded with equipment, fuel and ammunition for their tanks.

The Germans have been in the village for four hours now and the road is cleared, so some civilians decide to brave the Germans and go about their daily business.

Suddenly a slight droning noise can be heard...getting louder...louder...now there are lots of droning noises...what is it?

Allied planes!!!

Hundreds of allied planes flying overhead! There are screams from bewildered germans to get into positions, and an anti-aircraft gun mounted halftrack is brought up to support the bridge defenders. Men run to their positions while staring up at the sky!

Suddenly thousands of white drops begin to fall from the planes! PARATROOPERS!!!

...But which ones...?:wink2:

Stay tuned to find out!:wink2:^&grin

Fanastic story telling with these Figures ! {bravo}}

Scott, That is quite a serious posting of Arnhem pics. Glad to see your favorite series will go on ! {bravo}}

Scott, Followed along with each story scene and reframed from commenting between, so as not to interrupt to flow of the story, but there is a break now while we wait for the parachutes to land, so I will take a guess and say they are German parachutist's overshooting the drop zone. Nice of you to take the effort to display and await the next instalment, cheers, Robin.

Great series. Enjoyed each sequence and look forward to seeing what the sky produces.

very nice pictures and a great little story line to go along. Look forward to more
Mitch

Nice story build-up. Next instalment : if the village is called Oosterbeek then, I expect to see some British paras falling from the sky
guy:)

With the recent addition of the diorama area more people have been posting dios, and I feel that mine aren't really up to scratch with the guys posting, they seem to be so much more higher class than mine haha!^&grin Makes me happy to know you guys are interested mate! And thanks for waiting before posting villagehorse, but don't worry you can comment whenever you want mate, as can everyone! Kinda cool that you waited haha, built the suspense!^&cool

Next installment shall be tonight lads! All will be revealed...well possibly not all...but most!^&grin

Scott

That was just plain FUN!{sm3} {sm3}.

It is so nice to see how the TS can be so much more that something in a static display.
You have given me an inspiration and a few ideas to toss about. PLUS, don't let anyone tell you that you dios aren't (as good as) the BIG BOYS. Oh ya' -- nice figures and vehicles ^&grin

I will be sure to tune in again, same time, same station for the next segment of Double Dutch - Allied Paratroopers on Holland 1944
Larry

Great story telling, enjoyed every scene and look forward to the installment...:smile2:
Wayne.

Let battle commence...

The parachutes get closer and it is revealed that...the Germans are in trouble...because members of the American 82nd Airborne Division are landing in and around the village and the American 101st Airborne have travelled over land after landing 30 miles away to link up with the 82nd. The task force of the two divisions are to capture the village, hold it, and link up with forward units of the British XXX Corps. ^&grin

The anti-aircraft halftrack has been requested elsewhere and so moves further into the village.

Movement at the other side of the bridge prompts the Germans to make a scout party and go across the bridge...while the scout party moves out parachutists begin falling in the village but with the germans more concerned about what's on the other side of the bridge the parachutes landing in the field and around the village go virtually unnoticed...until one lands right in the river infront of the germans...I wonder where the paratrooper went?^&confuse Then one lands almost directly on top of the german forward position at the bridge, but the paratrooper managed to swing himself to land at the other side of the building. He sees the germans moving out to the bridge and so dives to the other side of the road for cover. He sees fellow paratroopers converging on the German position...
