Dr. WATSON AT MAIWAND (7 Viewers)

Hello Martyn,
I think this is a correct Bobbie figure for the set.
Al

Hi Al

Thanks for the picture, that Bobbie was issued with the 66th Command set#AS1. Can you get your friend to email you a picture of the other figures he has with Bobbie.

Lawrence Lo has a picture of the same dog in his 66th Berkshire album

Cheers

Martyn,
This was the only picture he had. If any doubts we should wait for a word from Len :)

Martyn,
I have two different versions. Don't know definitively if one is correct or both are correct. Here is the other:

Hi Lawrence

I believe they are probably both correct, the set#'s changed over the years from AS1 to AS1V and so did the dog;)

Must get to NY one day:cool:

I've found him, the original Bobbie:D

He came from my good friend who gave me the Doctor Watson set. He had been placed with a display of other animals and now he is back where he belongs;)

Len told me, a few weeks ago, that Bobbie the Dog was not included in the first run of 6 sets which went to the US and he was added to only three the second run of six Dr Watson sets.

According to Len approx 18 sets were made in total. The first 6 had no box or dog, the second six had boxes but only three had Bobbie and the last 6 had boxes but no Bobbie. By the way Len wrote the set description on the outside of each of the twelve boxed sets.

Many years ago I purchased a large early Trophy set of the 66th at Maiwand (it had ot be about 20-30 figures) which came with this same version of Bobby the dog. I gave it to Hans Hedrich a few years ago.

With the 66th Command Sets. Len must have stuck several 66th sets together and sold them as one big set (which I purchased from Burlington Antigue Toys in the early 1990's).

I love the Dr. Watson set, it is the only of 1 or 2 "Holmes" sets I don't have from all makers. That is a grail set.

TD

Just this morning I was given the other "Bobby" the dog along with the injured 66th Officer by a fellow Trophy collector and good mate, Richie.

They are set# A.6

These two pieces also appeared in set# AS.1 consisting of 6 pieces:

Officer mounted on a standing horse.

Officer standing with drawn sword and Regimental Colour.

Officer standing with drawn pistol, wounded and bare headed, while at his feet sits "Bobby" the mongrel mascot.

Sergeant guarding the Colour.

Bugler standing with rifle at side.

Cheers
