EA004 25 Pounder and Crew (1 Viewer)

How was this received when it came out (with or without limber)? Anyone got one (to comment on, not to sell)? Is it impossible to find these days?

(and I mean without resorting to http://metalsofhonor.estoreadvanced.biz/index.php?p=product&id=787&parent=34 )^&confuse

The 25 lb. gun and crew was one set. The tractor and limber with 2 figures was a second set. http://www.toysoldiersusa.com/cgi-local/show_detail.cgi?item_id=EA004

They do show up on ebay from time to time.

If it doesn't HAVE to be this make - Fusilier Miniatures have one with crew in shorts for £85 painted - or paint it yourself for around half that. have a look and surprise yourself! johnnybach:smile2:

I have the gun and crew, very nice it is too. It must be one of the most requested items for a reissue. Well worth picking up if you get the chance, favourite figure is the officer looking at his watch about to give the command 'Fire'!!

I wasn't a collector when it first came out but after I did and became interested in Desert War, and after a dealer (I think it was Gideon) advised me not to delay buying this one, I picked it up rather quickly.

Great piece. No offense to Fusilier, but it's just not quite the same.

If you can, I'd try to pick it up. You won't regret it.

I had the gun and crew. It was one of the first KC sets I ever purchased and it was the only 8th Army piece I ever had. I liked the set quite a bit as it seemed so iconic and was really well done. I, like Rob, really thought the officer was great and the gun sergeant had a lot of charcter, as well. I sold mine a long while back because I decided not to pursue Western Desert, but it was a fine set. -- Al

Terry, thanks for the clarification.

jonnybach - I found this style surprisingly charming. I could do this, one day...

Rob, that officer figure did catch my eye.

Al, jazzeum - thanks for the info - I'll keep a lookout for one - and/or add my voice to the calls for a reissue!

Hi ozzlum ___

1. Picked up both about a year ago (eBay, no where else available unless private seller).

2. Must say the 25 pounder and crew is an impressive set, tractor and limber less so in my opinion.

3. Hopefully Andy will continue to put out new armor and artillery pieces for the Eighth. Currently overmatched by the Afrika Korps.:wink2:

I have the set and was one of the first K&C sets I purchased. I think it's a great set and am sure glad I bought it when I did.

Time for us to sell for a big profit ^&grin^&grin

Actually, that one is part of my core collection so it's not for sale. It is one of my favourites.

Sorry to contradict you on this one Rob, but after seeing this one, I think its a a poor representation of the most famous British Gun of WW2

As far as the gun goes, its shown in the firing position, but the front shield is down, when it should be up, the gun is not on its platform, thats in the travelling position, and the No.3 gunner, the one laying and firing the gun isn't sitting on his seat.

Now with the gunners, there are 2 glaring errors.

1. the Sergeant, the No.1, would not be holding the rammer, thats used by the No.2, who is operating the breech, to ram home the projectile.

2, the No.4 who is loading the shell is the most glaring error, as he is holding a combined shell, with both the projectile and the cartridge case joined.
This was not the way the gun was loaded!
It was loaded by one ammo No. holding the projectile, which the loader, No.2, rammed into the breech, and then the next ammo No. loaded the cartrige case only, and the No. 2 closed the breech.

This Tamiya 1/35 kit I have assembled and painted is almost correct with the placement of the gunners, the gun's firing position, but the gun has a muzzle break, which is a later gun that that wasn't used in North Africa.

I hope this explains why I think its not a very good representation of this gun.

By the way, I'm speaking from experience, as I have served on these guns, and was on the last 25 Pounder shoot in the 1970's, when they were retired from the Australian Army, just after the withraw of Aussie Diggers from Vietnam, and we then went onto 105mm Howitzers.

Thanks for this info John. Good to get info first hand from someone who has personal knowledge about it.

I also have the Tamiya 1/35 kit as you pictured, I just haven't built it yet. Yours looks nice.
