Eagle Design 1/30 Panzer III (2 Viewers)

Question: Were both of these style Panzer III's initially stolen from Dragon and Tamiya?????

To be frank,;) the ED model looks more like a rough knockoff of the Tamiya kit than one derived from the FL model. Of course, that could just be indicative of quality work on the part of ED. It's also possible that ED licensed the mold from Tamiya and upscaled it from 1/35 to 1/30. Diecast manus do that all the time.

They have been measured and the ED is slightly larger than the FL. The ED does also have slight differences which set it apart as an Ausf. L rather than a Ausf. J.

In fact, Matt also wrote a message about the differences between copies and knockoffs. Knockoffs aren't technically illegal.

What the ED Panzer IIIs appear to be are 1/30 versions of Tamiya kits. We suspect they use them as their "design."

Lastly, I have already bought all the versions of the FL Panzer III and I am only getting these to create new custom jobs.

Brad, ..Your custom winterized paint jobs done by Mitch are simply excellent... very well done... thank you for posting the photos for all of us to enjoy.......LASTLY..You owe no one an explanation as to why you purchased these models....Best Frank

Ultimately no one has a patent on the Panzer III design; it is public domain. K&C, TCS, FL, ED, and 21st Century have all made prebuilt and painted Panzer IIIs and all are different in size and details. Given the comments, observations and photographic comparisons it would seem that the ED Panzer III is no more a copy of the FL than the TCS is a copy of the K&C IMO.

They actually did. Google Winterketten and you'll see pics of StuG, Panzer III, Panzer IV, Sig33B mounted this way.

Another good looking model from Eagle Design. I'd like to see them do some German SdKfz 250 and 251 halftracks or a StuG.

Eagle design now are offering Krupp Protze trucks, Greys, Winter with snow chains and DAK all with removable top. DAK version has Luftwaffe number plates. Comes with a driver though same one whether you chose Winter, DAK or SS version. but as he seems to be removable also, not a problem I'd guess though a bit of a disappointment all the same. Think I'll be picking one of these up.

Great vehicle and wonderful price. I wish that they would produce Allied armored cars.

His primary market is China and not sure there is much of a market for US vehicles there. Selling on eBay is a side market for him.

German armor sells; American, British and Russian, not so much. Figarti made American and Russian armor that no one else had in 1/30 scale i.e. M26, KV-1, SU-100, ISU-152 all fine models. Quite a few are still on eBay long after release. The same applies to FL armor; several Shermans are now on eBay but no German armor models.

Eagle Design made the right decision to start with the Panzer II and III. I expect they will continue the progression i.e. Panzer IV, Panther, Tiger I and Tiger II. The hiatus of Figarti has left an opening in the market especially in China. Eagle Design has an opportunity and they are doing well with their first releases.

I hope that we will see a grey early war Stug III Ausf D (short barrel assault gun) from "Eagle Design"....Put me down for 3 of them....NOW....Nice products and at great prices that don't break the bank.......:salute:::salute:::salute::

Yes, I was told that we will see them early 2018 :smile2: :smile2::smile2:

It doesn't look to bad Steve but I don't like the colour of this version. If ED brings out winter and desert versions then I may consider grabbing them depending on what they look like. I also don't like the silver on the door hinges and handles or around the headlamps.

I purchased the winter Krupp Protze truck a while ago and it also had silver on the headlamps. I repainted the lamps grey and the middle slits black and I think it looks much better.

Absolutely agree with you there Tom. I'm waiting for the DAK version. Hopefully hinges / catches will be same body colour, but I'm guessing that it will need a few daubs of paint / amendments !

But on the whole a fair job for the price !

Be better if they offered different drivers for the different options, if I'm not jumping the gun a bit !

I think that the more common configuration for N Africa was to have the oversized tires mounted:

I agree Moe, that reason along with the yellow colour that I don't like is why I passed on this version.

‘Nuther possible issue, in this case with the both of them, is the color of the seat fabric. I’ve seen it noted as being feldgrau, rather than brown. I’ve likewise seen the canvas top in the same greenish color. Of course, this would be more easily remedied than changing out the wheel/tire setup.;)

I have just bought the Roman catapult and tents [2] sets, plus 2 grass solid bases to put the tents on, have bought from them before and have always found them excellent to deal with and the tanks and figures I have are excellent. the tanks fit in great with my K & C and FL vehicles, while the Napoleonic winter retreat figures look great, in the background of the FL Retreat from Moscow diorama, not as good as FL but at the price when compared they are really good additions.
