I have noticed a lot of items on eBay with incorrect titles, descriptions, comments on rare/retired, mint, prices ???

I mostly simply assume it is a error / mistake by seller.

Examples

Mint Condition, my favorite, an item is not Mint, unless it is in its manufactured box with original packing, documents and in perfect condition. No original box, certificate, any damage to figure or box, NOT MINT.

Rare/Retired, when it is not rare or retired and available many places.

Selling price, figure selling for $77, but you can buy it direct from manufacture for $19???

Describing a figure as Frist Legion, Britain, John Jenkins or King & Country, and they are not. Each of the noted figures have some form of banding on their bases.

My next favorite, adding to the title or description other manufacture, so any search done on say First Legion comes up with all other sorts of manufactures.

Or am I being an old stick in mud............

As the saying goes, buyer beware.

Any in sights.

My favorite is when sellers list a currently available toy soldier for $10USD, valued at $75 USD.

However shipping, and more importantly handling, is $95USD.

A figure without a box can be mint. The box has nothing to do with condition of a figure.

Agree here. The box is an extra and albeit very important, but you can still have a figure that is Mint, the difference is it is not New.

There are a lot of sellers who are not toy soldier sellers on ebay, so mistakes will happen and it is buyer beware.

I have a lot of items that I can't identify sometimes that are Vintage or antique. I list it is unknown but compatible with XXX. I have never had an issue.

As for pricing, it is a market of what someone is willing to pay, it is not a fixed priced good nor a protected brand on the secondary market. Therefore, if someone wants to ask a high or low price, that is what it is.

I have a number of rare items up for sale at a price. If it doesn't sell, that is fine, still looks fine on my shelf. If I get my price, out it goes.

Yes, that is another one, I do not know if some sellers think it cost them less in fees, but eBay charges fees on item price and shipping, so no saving. It maybe another way of getting a minimum price they want. But I just list at the minimum I want with shipping at cost.

You’ve misinterpreted that plus Wikipedia means nothing. I collect vinyl records and the sleeve can be less than mint (VG +) while the record is Mint.

Another one, eBay shipping.

I know why seller use it, no issues with postage if lost or damaged.

But you have to pack it safely and take it to drop off point. Just take it to post office.

It costs the buyer more. takes a minimum of twice as long to get to buyer.

Had 4 figures take over 2 weeks to get from mid USA to west coast and then sit for week and then 2 weeks to get to Oz. 5 weeks all up. I am a old man I do have 5 weeks for something to get to me.

While the Aust Office can lose and damage a package 95% of the time it gets to US or Europe in under 2 weeks.

Happy to disagree

Bingo. I too as you know collect vinyl. My first concern is the actual record depending on rarity, so I have quite a few Mint records that have VG cover/sleeves due to age. If it is a really cool cover, I may go more Mint on that side. I will say in Vinyl Mint covers are really hard to come by no matter the age of the vinyl, it is just darn hard to get it Mint. Kind of like the "Gem 10" trading card rating.

Again, I agree a figure can be Mint unboxed or Mint in the box. NEW in the box (Undisplayed not removed is the highest quality IMO). I have a great many figures that are Mint unflawed on display.

A great example is Russian Figures. First off, they are all UNBOXED! Aeroart figures do not come from Russia in those nice black boxes. They are packaged in the USA after shipment, so are they Mint? New? Certainly look like it when I buy them from Thor.

And finally - last time I checked Wikipedia is a very subjective source for definitions and information. It is definitely not my go to.

Finally - as with all collectible items, unless certified by an independent authority, condition is subjective and in the eyes of the beholder so to speak. There are general norms, but at least for me and I am a heavy Russian Figure collector, I have plenty of Mint unboxed items.

I am sorry to disagree here, but Ebay shipping is the Only way I will ship internationally unless I am sending to a close friend. It is the only protection a seller in the US can get from international. My last straw was a donkey from Canada lying through his proverbial teeth about the receipt of an item. I ended up winning the dispute due to the US Postal Service obtaining (my postmaster who is a friend) a certified letter from the Canadian counterpart confirming delivery and blaming the missed scan on their system. If it wasn't for that, I would have been out $600 and a Russian figure. Instead I kept my $600. SO, after that no more regular shipment. Once it gets to a hub, I am out of the deal and it is on they buyer and ebay at that point. Too much scam on the International side for me. The amazing thing is, since I switched to Ebay global, I have also had less than 1% of unpaid items by international buyers. More serious buyers, more payment. The only time I get unpaid claims now is extremely rare.

I have gotten a little less particular about the sleeves. I used to be very fussy but I’ve gotten some pretty good sounding records with a VG sleeve.

On figures, AeroArt is definitely a good example. The box is secondary. It’s all about the figure, as it should be.

Tom,

Yes, agree comes down the personal choose, on mint, mint, boxed or unboxed.

Comes down to, (I think you noted), rarity, the figure and if I want/need it. I also have varying condition figures.

On eBay shipping, bad services, takes to long and cost more, not one thing good for buyer, so disagree.

He who has the most TS when he dies wins.

meant to tell you at an auction I got a first issue Iron Butterfly In A Gadda Da Vida Atco 1st print sealed in shrinkwrap. If I had to grade it though - Vinyl New (I am not playing it either! as I have a play copy), but the cover is what I would call Near Mint. Again, I couldn't believe my eyes and the price was right! Same auction I picked up a New Sealed Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Survivors 1st Print (Flames Cover) too. Unbelievable luck actually at least for me.

Yes, you can still pick up figures / items for far price got a NAP0089 British Guard Grenadier Drummer (no box). But when it turned up had original box and packing. Can get lucky.
