Exclusive Limited Edition Britains Civil War set (1 Viewer)

Actually Tim, as of last night these are all currently available on ebay at the moment.

Wow, what a shock; those limited edition, almost impossible to find figures are up on Ebay? Really? Wow, whoever thought of that is a genius........................

Hey George, this would be a great chance to kick start a new line, say Australians in hand-to-hand combat with Japanese on the Kokoda Trail.:D:D -- Al (and I'm not kidding)

Al,
Great idea; they'd probably tell me "Pacific sets don't sell, we're not going to make those for you"..........

That is a great idea; myself, Matt and Treefrog will band together and do our own series of figures through Britains, we'll call it the Black and Blue series because customers will be fighting with each other to reserve the sets.

Didn't know Britains offered this sort of service to it's dealers.

Gee, you learn something new everyday.

And while it's true the lancers have sold like wildfire, I've got highlanders stacked to the ceiling overhere, so there goes the theory that the highlanders would sell like hotcakes to oppose the French..............

George when WBritain introduced the Zulu War Series ModelZone UK from the get go had exclusive sets provided by WB as well as MKL Models UK who has had the Matte Sudan Medical Sets as the first of their Matte Series figures. So it's been nothing new that's been established by WB.

Nice to hear you have Highlanders stacked to the ceiling, I guess that means you,ll give me a great deal on them to get rid of some of them???:rolleyes::p

I think it is great that WB works with dealers to allow them to create their own "Limited Edition" figures !

Funny thing about business - if you want to succeed - you need to be creative.

I don't think its W. Britians place to tell dealers how to be successful or creative. The sharp dealer goes out makes his own success. Put up your capitol investment and make it happen !

Also - I think its great that W. Britains allows "Limited Edition" figures to be made from their own existing lines ! Very smart business move on their part - something that King & Country does not allow with their existing lines.

Great Marketing Strategy - W. Britains ! :D

Hey, don't shoot the messenger here George. I'm just telling the man what I know after all.

I was being sarcastic; I feel bad for the collectors who wanted these, got shut out because they sold out so quickly and now have to pay out the nose for them via Ebay, saw that coming a mile away based on production quantities.................

Understood and also find this practice frustrating, but most of what I saw last night was actually selling at less than retail from reputable and regular ebay dealers and stores.

MD,
Ebay giveth and Ebay taketh away; some sets as you said go for big bucks, others you can't give away, so it evens out in the end.

I just feel bad for the list of collectors as long as my arm wanting those Lancers and not being able to get them.............

Yeah George, cannot argue with you about the nature of Ebay. As for limited production figures, it seems hard to predict how these will go. These have all sold out prior to being released but that is not always the case of course. Perhaps there will be more releases in the pipeline in larger runs to follow up on the success of these.

I absolutely agree with you, and there were no doubt a lot of disappointed collectors who were unable to find the lancers shortly after their release...I was one of them...however...if you are persistent and keep checking distributors and Ebay the chances are pretty good of finding one or two. After much searching, I was able to find and purchase several. I won't say that I didn't pay quite a bit for them, but they are out there. In fact, I just saw a buy it now for the Trooper #1 on Ebay.uk last week. I don't see it there now, but I see several listings for Trooper #2. Just keep looking. I suspect there was some hoarding of this item; this generally happens only when the buyers plan to sell at a profit. If you are willing to accept the increase and persist in your search, you'll get your figure. Good luck.

Britains has offered dealers the rights to exclusive sets for several years. This is nothing new. Several dealers in the UK took them up on it and now us in the USA. As far as I know any dealer that wants to put out the money can do this. It isn't cheap that's for sure.

WOW!!!!...Top marks on this one Ken, Also for the dealers who banded together to commision this piece and the coming hand to hand sets from the new Blue and Grey series. I have already put in a pre-order with Craig at the Old Toy Soldier Home, and if this set is anything to go by he can count on my custom for the complete series!!!!.

Thanks for the kind comments all. It was fun to work with these shops to create the new ACW hand to hand set and Dave painted it exactly as we discussed.
This set should work very nicely with the other W. Britain ACW releases that have been developed for general release. Collectors interested in 'The Late Unpleasantness' can now add something special to their vignettes, much like the AZW collectors did with the ModelZone sets from the UK.
There is already a second set in development for the Blue and Grey series that may end up being one of my favorites... Keep in contact with these dealers for details.

As mentioned already, W. Britain has offered this service for some time now and are happy to see some folks on this side of the Atlantic taking advantage of it. If there are any other dealers or groups interested in a special commission figure or set they should feel free to contact Richard Walker at W. Britain.
All the Best!

Well there is another new set coming for the Blue & Grey series. Dave is painting the decoration master right now and I thought some of you might like seeing an image of what is headed your way later this year. More pictures will be posted later.

The original sculpts usually are not shown...this one is fresh from my work bench. The set is made up of eight parts that are pinned in place in these images. The production set will be glued and soldered together.

Note stitching on the leathers, correct period patches, and details on the hasty works. This will make a great addition to set #1.
Enjoy,
Ken

What action are these sets intended to represent?
They do look very good.
I would use them for Pickett's Charge but that is just me.

This will certainly be a must have for me and will be a welcomed addition to set #1. Once again Ken, you have done an outstanding job. Hazzah!

Since this set is depicting an Iron Brigade member attempting to capture a Rebel flag I would place the event on July 1, 1863 at the "Railroad Cut", Gettysburg, PA. However, I will use mine in my August 28, 1862 Brawner's Farm (near Manansas, VA) diorama where the Iron Brigade "banged it out" at close quarters with Stonewall Jackson's troops in a pre-lude to 2nd Bull Run.

The more I look at the prototype pictures of both sets #1 and #2, I am more certain than ever that these are more appropriate for a "2nd Bull Run/Manasas scenario, for example Brawner's Farm, than Gettysburg. One reason: Both Iron Brigade figures are smartly uniformed and both are wearing canvass leggings. At Brawner's Farm and 2nd Bull Run, the Iron Brigade was commanded by Brig Gen John Gibbon who was quite a disciplinarian and a stickler for wanting his brigade to look and fight like "Regulars". Thus, he uniformed them with their now famous Hardee "Black Hat" (which was regular army issue), and made them wear canvass leggings (again regular army issue) - even thought they were not well liked by the troops. By the time the Brigade got to Gettysburg, they were well seasoned veterans and looked the part - Hardee Hats were more personalized, uniforms were more "worn weary" and most of the troops were not wearing the leggings, which were no longer required by their currrent command. JMHO . . . . . . . . . Mike

I think you are on the right track here Mike, as by July 1863 those leggings and frock coats had apparently been largely worn out and not replaced, and as you say the Hardee hats had less the consistent appearance as originally prescribed for the unit(s).
