Buildings so far in the K&C arena appear to have been full dimemsion with the exception of the SOHK which are high relief facades. With shelf space at a premium I would like to read some opinion of whether the release of some ( note--NOT ALL)future buildings in other than SOHK would be better served as facades.

I love the RAF dispersal Hut..........but frankly was set back when I opened the box and I saw how big it was.....it takes up a ton of space, most of it wasted (rear and at least one maybe 2 sides) when placed in a shelf setting. Another manufacturer (name ??) had made a facade of one and perhaps not up the K&C detail or quality, served the purpose of presenting an acceptable environment for posing RAF figures in front of it.

I raise this question as the WWI lines appear to be ready for a breakout in a number of different manufacturers and if Hanger Tents or an older generation of dispersal shacks, fueling sheds, wouldn't be better served (and must less costly and shiping damage prone) to be facades rather than full scale structures??

ANy comments one way or the other??

As an example: Is a mix of larger facades in the back of a shelf aganist the wall and full size closer to the viewer out on the shelf acceptable to most??

Hey Walt

I see pros and cons with both. I personally enjoy full size, 3d buildings- I have the space so it works for me.

However, there is one dealer here in the Gettysburg area- Charlie Tarbox, who displays most of the JG Miniatures (the RAF quanson hut you "forgot") facades and they look really really good.

KC has done several other facades as well- to include a Normandy series. They did one for Rome, Alamo, Egypt, etc. i wasn't too fond of them. Did pick up the Egyptian one to use to build a 3D Full size temple.

Because I have both shelf & full space available, it's a moot point for me. Just depends on the effect I'm trying to create/what I'd like the viewer to see.

For me space, cost and other competing line wants limit me from getting many full size buildings. I think there is no comparison between a fascade and a full size building. The full size piece is so much nicer however for reasons previously mentioned ( like size ) they can be impractical. I really like how K&C has made all their recent buildings usable in a variety of historic era's which allows for maximum flexibility for collectors. Bottom line for me is that I'd likely buy more fascades than full size as I display my pieces more than putting them into a full blown 3D diorama.

Almost all of my display space is bookshelf type. Fascade buildings are the only type I can use and they are the only type I have. I love the full size type but I can't put them anywhere so I won't buy them. Space is at a premium. -- Al

Personally I prefer a "high relief" building, a facade plus an inch or two od side wall. 1) it saves valuable display space and 2) to me the figures and vehicles are the focus of the display, not the buildings. The buildings are just "urban scenery" to place the vehicles and soldiers into a context. There will always be a place for a few "full" buildings, but most of my wants are facades.

I agree, I am a facade collector mainly.

Facades for me also as they allow some interest in the dio but still able the soldiers to be in the forefront.

Don't mind both are good. sometimes a facade will do the job whilst other times a full building will need to be used. Space is an issue so, we will need manufacturers to keep producing both

sorry fellas- I like full size buildings cause then i can play with my troopers on the table!! :eek::eek::eek:

I prefer Facade. 2 or 3 facades together to make a street would also be nice.To represent a street only the exteroir buildings must then have an inch or two of sidewall ;
Guy:)

They both have their place. The Normandy Church is a very nice facade. But the new full dimension Normandy village series is already off to a great start. I would think K&C will continue to produce both.

I like facades when they are used for background/street scenes, such as Hudson and Allen's French Village, WBritain's Pub, JG's facades, etc... However, when it comes to military fortifications, civilian buildings being used by the military, or parts of a compound, I prefer full interior 3D, or "half buildings" like Britains' Zulu stuff.

I like and use both. Facades when space is an issue and full buildings when there's plenty of room. Each has it's own pros and cons.

Yep, space is a big factor. Where there's room, especially with a 360-degree view, full dimension works well. I'm working on a piece now that I do not have room to display with a view all around, so I'll mount it on a Lazy Susan base to allow rotating.

Prost!

Full dimemsion buildings get my vote. Offers myself great diorama set ups. These buildings IMO are LONG overdue.

I have both....I like both....my one comment however is.......you cant stick a tank in a facade! :cool::rolleyes::cool:

I know the european buildings have just started but, I wonder if we will get a church building with the facade being out I am sure it would be great but, wonder what it would cost and how big it would be??
