...and was later incorporated into SS para battalion 600, which fought in the Ardennes with Skorzeny...and we know how much Andy likes the Ardennes range, so kills two birds with one stone ...and with the right uniform choices for them - not too much snow, or none at all, you get some very versatile pieces, what with blue/ grey helmets, splinter smocks and FG 42 rifles etc...

And don"t forget the blue/grey overcoats under the splinter smocks for the Ardennes campaign!!!!!!!. Classic figures man.

W Britains did a very good figure in that uniform mix recently, sadly only one though.

Yep i saw that figure!!. I have a battlefield full of WB American civil war but for WWII i do prefer KC. I hope that maybe one day soon that KC will take the hint and produce some Fallschirmjagers for Normandy/Ardennes and fill the void..!!!!!!!!!

With The Parachutes deployed !!! :salute::

NO..NO..NO..!! No SS. with or without parachutes thankyou. Just plain Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager with both feet firmly planted on the ground just as they were actually employed later in WWII.

The 500th SS. Para Btn who were for 50% SS. misfits and military criminals were sent to capture Tito at his HQ in Dvar. the raid was a complete disater. The troops were parachute and glider borne. many missed the landing zone and of the 1000 men that took part 800 were killed or wounded...and Tito escaped.

The remaining troops eventually became the 600th Para Btn. and were attatched to Otto Skorzeny"s Panzerbrigade 150 and played a small part in the Ardennes battle. it was the only contact that these so called "Para"s"made with allied forces in western europe.

They had some contact with Soviet forces at the end of the war but did a runner and surrended to US. forces in may 1945.

So guys hands up who would like to have these dubious "para"s hanging from a string in their hobby room or who would like to have a display of the real Fallschirmjagers in their KC collection..?????.

Steve,

With or without the string hanging from the figures, This SS Paratrooper unit is one that many people are unaware of.
Many that do reenacting will fight tooth and nail that there ever was an SS Para unit during WWII.
Over the years K&C has made numerous German paratrooper figures, but none with the parachutes deployed.
The American Para's done in this fashion seem to be very popular among collectors. I have a set myself hanging from
a string in my Hobby room. Visiting guests always seem to point out the 2 Soldiers falling from the ceiling in awe.......

Yes there definately was an SS. Para Btn as i have explained, but as they were of very limited effect in all their deployments i do not believe they warrant a KC series devoted to them.

I personally...(my feelings) do not like soldiers hanging on bits of string from the ceiling under fake looking parachutes, as good as KC is at producing top figures in the toy soldier world i did not like the US. and British figures they produced...(because of the chutes)...and i did not buy them. and niether will i buy SS. Para"s if KC ever would produce them...with or without chutes!!.

In my humble opinion if and whenever KC does produce german para"s then they have a far safer more surefire product by releasing the real para"s the men that earned the name in Normandy of "The Lions of Carentan"and the guys that made themselves very troublesome in the Ardennes. and
that can only mean the Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager Battalions.

And maybe we should end this discussion here..respect each others views and wishes and just hope that our posts have given KC some needed
"food for thought".

Steve

Well if it's a choice of one or the other "proper" Luftwaffe para's get my vote to be produced every time...and as the original post that started this all off suggests, Normandy should be well received.

The Lions of Carentan.....bring "em"on KC, the sooner the beter!!!....a stealthy advancing patrol would be great!!!!!!!!.

Steve,

To address these comments from you:

The problem simply is your opinion is justly "your own". Clearly K&C has made its first U.S. 3 figure paratrooper set DD056
more than several years ago. The success of that set gave way to DD122 and DD123 sets being made. DD122 & DD123 did so well that
it was re-issued again as DD253 due to collector interest and response. MG058 British paratroopers were also produced as well. My own feelings are
that any German para figures made with the same design as the DD sets would be popular. If they were in fact done with the SS unit markings as say
"SS Fallschirmjager unit 500" that would make them even more unique and collectible.

It may be worth pointing out that as far as uniform was concerned, in battle SS para's and Luftwaffe para's would look indistinguishable. SS para's did not have SS decals on helmets but just used the standard Luftwaffe helmets anyway ( with or without eagle decal ) and there was not an SS camo jump smock either ( it seems some may have existed but were never actually issued). So as long as a splinter smock is being worn, they would in reality look the same.

A very valid point friend!!. Although there was an SS. Dot camo jump smock produced late in the war it was a question of "too late and too few" to ever have been commonly seen in battle. there is a very knowledgeable book by Michael D. Beaver Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS that covers this subject very well.
So it just boils down to what rocks your boat....would you wish for SS. para"s with chutes or Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager in the way they were mostly deployed as.."ground troops"..???
It would be great if someone could make a poll (sorry computers not one of my better talents) to find out how much interest there is for such a series. and if so then would we prefer SS. or Luftwaffe figures, and with or without parachutes.....I for one would love to see the results!!!!!.
and it just might get KC to make the jump!!!!.

Gentlemen (and Ladies),
Perhaps this is bringing “coals to Newcastle”, but a "small technical detail" should possibly be observed. The Luftwaffe’s RZ series of Fallschirmjäger personnel chutes were not the same in harness/shroud configuration as either the U.S. T-10 series or the British X-type series. Won’t go into specific respective configurations (left as an exercise for the student), but obviously significantly different.

ArnhemJim,

Just to clarify here, I would not nor did I suggest that the U.S. parachutes could be used for German Paratrooper figures.
Where this angle of the conversation slipped in I have no clue, but I would bet King & Country would design a whole new
proper Parachute setup to fit with German Para's with chutes deployed. If the whole idea comes to fruition and if that Coal
truck does in fact reach Newcastle on those wobbly wheels.
