Fargo (2 Viewers)

Some of the reviews I’ve read aren’t entirely favorable.

the previews look a little silly...but I'm gonna give it a shot...it's been entertaining for the past 3 seasons......

Found the first two episodes detailed and odd enough to keep my interest. An OCD cop and a killer nurse to go along with a whole cast of weirdos with typical Cohen Brothers plot twists should keep this series on my front burner. Really like the whole feel to this show with the cars, clothing, weather, et al. -- Al

I watched the first two episodes and the problem is that the show isn’t Fargo although it has that title. The movie and the first three seasons of the tv series was a noir concept that had the feel of the frozen north, the dark woods and snow of Minnesota and the upper Midwest. It had a strangeness with enough unusual twists and turns that you looked forward to what happened next.

This Fargo — and I really hesitate to call it Fargo — is just a story of rival crime gangs who are looked down upon by the rest of American white society fighting for their place in society and a piece of the pie.

Altogether, it’s a disappointing series so far and if they do make another series I hope they return the series to its frigid, dark roots.

I am fairly in agreement with Brad here. That said, if it is anything like its predecessors, you know a twist is coming. I will keep watching as its like an accident, once you start looking, hard to turn away.

Found the first two episodes interesting enough to watch more. Was the pie poisoned? I couldn't make out what was in the syrup jar. Chris

Chris, I wondered the same thing. The syrup jar said Ipecac, which is used in poisoning cases to induce vomiting and empty the stomach of the poison. Maybe the nurse just wanted to make the family throw up all over the place. The nurse is a real nut case. -- Al

This continues to entertain me. Just love the characters like the Mormon sheriff and the 2 brothers who are 'none too fond' of each other. Plus, that nurse... -- Al

I'm finding it somewhat enjoyable but agree that the original concept is beginning to get old. This is like the third runner up in a make a Fargo show. Many of the plot lines are wildly unrealistic even in a TV drama. Chris Rock is a mixed bag. The crazy nurse is really a parody of a Fargo character. But I will still watch.

Well Al, you were right about the pie. :salute:: Just realized the actress who portrays the nurse was also the fireman's wife in the Chernobyl series. Chris

I watched the most recent episode. All rather predictable. The only reason I’m continuing to watch this series is for Salvatore Esposito who plays the brother Gaetano. Esposito was in Gomorrah as the mafia don’s son Genny Savastano. Now, that is an excellent series.Chris Rock is not bad either.

Caught up with the last two episodes. Two mistakes I noticed. In the next to last episode the episode opens up in a black club and the group is playing Moanin’, which is a classic jazz songs by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Trouble is the series takes place in 1950 and the song wasn’t written until 1958. Major error.

In the last episode where the hospital doctor is dressing down the crazy nurse he says he’ll have to discuss the letter of complaint with “Human Resources.” That term didn’t come in vogue until the 1990s. Prior to that it was the Industrial Relations Department or simply Personnel.

Noticed the 'human resources' error, just sounded wrong, but never had a clue on the music as I am not a jazz listener. Nice catch. -- Al

Minor stuff though. The show is proving better than I thought it would be. I was surprised at what happened to Doctor Senator (an interesting name).

Senator's murder in mid-series surprised me as well. I think the 4th series good overall, but not as much as the first two seasons (haven't seen season 3 yet). Chris

Season 3 was very Fargo-like. I think you’d like it.

Very interesting episode tonight. Liked the B/W and was happy to see that the Coen Brothers favorite hotel, The Barton Arms, made another appearance in one of their productions. It has previously appeared in Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing. Anyway, the Wizard of Oz tornado, followed by color was an interesting homage. -- Al
