Hi, I would like some feedback on shipping.
I purchased two figures from a vendor in the United Kingdom who charged 20 pounds for shipping. The. 2 figures arrived after three weeks and I looked at the postage and he actually spent £12.60. Would you buy from this vendor again? The figures are nice but I feel ripped off, what you guys think?
Thanks
Benjamin

I don't think a seller should charge more than he actually pays on shipping.I've bought things from the UK and it didn't cost anywhere near that.
Mark

Is the excess cost the rather nebulous addition of 'and handling'?

If my estimated costs of shipping materially exceed what it actually cost, I automatically give the buyer a refund.

I agree shipping should not be a profit there is nothing more annoying than be RIPPED off with over priced shipping.

As someone who relies solely on buying off-shore, postage costs are a major factor in what I can and can't afford. I've been burnt a few times over the years by over charged postage and so called handling fees. It's disappointing when this happens, because it's often more than a few dollars, especially when you factor in the exchange rate. Suffice to say I never deal with those sellers ever again.

Thankfully I've got a great dealer in Oz whose wonderful and have found forum members great to trade with....:salute::

I think sadly its the way things are going. If these are on e-bay people are now trying to recoup the fact that e-bay started charging 10% on postage. I would say that I add a little extra to my budget because it also includes packaging and we all know that you have to buy this. I think in this case you should contact the seller and just say what you have told us he may offer a refund.

I think the gap between this amount and the postage is too large and is a way of getting more money from the sale which, as I mentioned earlier is the way things are going

I see it all the time on e-bay etc where one item is charged at postage of £24 for transit in England when you know its going for a maximum of £12.92 parcel force for up to 5 kilo's. I just avoid people that set prices this high

The "Shipping and Handling" cost has always been a item that I consider in the final purchase decision .... on eBay or not.

I believe most dealers are fair and reasonable when it comes to shipping and packaging costs. Yet, there are some that are trying to squeeze a few dollars more than they should. No matter if EBay wins or the Seller wins, in these cases, the buyer loses.

There is a BIG difference between the TRUE Toy Soldier dealers and the after market sellers. For the TS dealers this is their life and business ... so the cost of the actual shipping + packaging + time to ship + possible employees all is a reasonable cost. However, there are a few of those fellows that really stick it to you if you are not careful

I always send my business to the "Free Shipping" sellers if possible. When I look at the cost of the figure or set I always add in the cost of S&H to see if it pushes the number out of my reach. On EBay and in a few EBay stores there are items I would love to get ahold of but when I have to add 25% - 40% of the cost of the figure in S&H that ends it for me.

In this case I would appeal to the good graces of the dealer and ask if he could send a refund. If he does than you can do business with him again, if not then you had a learning experience. The good thing is you did get your soldier and can enjoy that.

Unfortunatly a very bad and widespread habbit - in my experience not only restricted to the UK but it is becomeing increasingly common.
Simple answer = stay away from that dealer but send him a link to this thread - we all love him.

Thanks for the feedback. Today I received a partial refund on the shipping, which was nice.

I always look to buy from dealer who give free shipping :wink2:^&grin:salute::

One thing I will say insurance for a expensive item can add a extra £5.00 to the cost of shipping

Not sure how long dealers who offer free overseas shipping will be around. For example it costs me 11.48 USD to ship an empty box 8" x 6" x 2" to the UK. That does not include the cost of the box, tape, label, or other shipping supplies. If you sell an item on eBay yes they charge you a 10% fee on all shipping costs charged. So now your in the hole 10% before you even pack the item.

I see your point on this issue.Nobody really thinks of the other costs you mention.

Treefrogtreasures offer free shipping to the UK when you spend over $250.00 which is not hard in this hobby and so do a lot of other US company's

The supplies for shipping (boxes, peanuts, bubblewrap) are just things you eat when you sell an item. Wherever possible, I reuse boxes and peanuts.

Not sure if it was a private seller or a dealer but, the refund came through so, its all well

That is the smart thing to do. Most people do. Boxes shouldn't cost anything either as the U.S.
Postal Service hands them out free.

The only thing I hate is when an overseas seller insists on using FedEx. I don't mind the charge
so much but FedEx collects Customs Fees. Outside of FedEx I never have had to pay customs.
Not even on items with a declared value of well over $1000.

I do the same Brad :salute::

That would be great but, in the UK we are in such a mess that they will start charging us to go into the post office soon. I don't see free boxes coming from royal mail any time.
