Figarti Dioramas (1 Viewer)

The diorama base is made of 2" pink foam insulation, the elevations are created by stacking the foam and gluing the layers together ( Like a wedding cake ). All of the landscape is then carved with a knife and a rasp file.

Regular sand is a bit too coarse so it is put in a food processor and made finer......

The base is then covered with a mix of paint white glue and spackle, while it is wet the sand is sprinkled on. Then when it drys it is sprayed with a 50 / 50 mix of white glue and water.

The diorama measures 6' by 2'

Thanks Alex, you make it sound so simple mate{sm4}........I like the idea of grinding up the coarse sand in the food processor.....can't say I'd get away with doing that at home though, the Mrs would have my bollocks.{eek3}

You've got me all inspired though, so I'm now keen to have a crack at it myself.

Thanks for posting the photograph too, it's a nice shot.

Cheers!

Go for it.......A scene like this is an excellent starting point, it is really no that difficult. When you get into making buildings and trees etc., then things get a bit more difficult.

We want to do a how to, but we have been so busy we always forget to film the process of the actual building of a particular project. We will get to it eventually

Thanks Alex, yeah I bet you guys get really busy, I'm sure plenty of the lads here on Treefrog would love to see you film the dio process at some stage.

You've got a loyal following out here mate, so anything you post is always appreciated.{bravo}}

I figured that due to the obvious favoritism shown towards K&C by this forum, every manufacturer should have a diorama section to show the wonderful products also made by other manufacturers.

Thanks Mike, as a diorama builder and protographer you know you never how a scene will come out on film. These were from back in the day and they came out a bit better than I expected.

Are you going to be at Hackensack thie year. Alex

No...I went last year...we chatted a bit...not sure if you remember...but it's just not practical financially for me...I live in Texas and it's an easy $1,000 trip before I even make a purchase...it's a wonderful show...but I think I'm gonna stick with just the San Antonio show from now on...

your work is really nice...such detail...it's all about the detail...

Yes we love our detail and guys like you who do detailed work also. We have a lot of cool projects we are working on and I also look forward to your future work. We dont collect what you do, but I enjoy your scenes.

Yes I do remember chatting with you at the show. That is why I asked if you were coming.
