First K&C set owned & did/would you part w/ it (1 Viewer)

welcome aboard ,I only have a few naps but as you have probably seen
their are plenty of die hard Napoleonic collectors here.
Where abouts in NZ do you originaly hail from ?.
cheers Rob

Hi Rob,
Sorry to take so long replying to your q. I was born in the Taranaki (Hawera) but grew up in Hawkes Bay. Went to Otago University in the deep south and then spent 3 years in London before being sentenced to life in Sydney for the term of my natural life (my only crime was to catch the No.44 bus from Trafalgar Sq in the early hours one night without purchasing a ticket...banished to the Antipodes) :)

Where in Aoteoroa are you?

Karl,

Matt Napoelonics aren't really my bag. I have most of the 1994-1995 issue glossy K&C Napoleonics, and a few of the limited edition matt ones, but I wouldn't consider my Napoleonic collection big. The man to speak to about Napoleonics is Hans Hedrich. He has enough to build a real British Square and properly attack it.

Regards,

Louis

Hey Louis,
Who is Hans Hedrich and where does he hail from?
Cheers

Hans is one of my best friends in the world, probably has one of the biggest K&C collections in the world, is a co-author of the book we are writing cataloguing K&C from 1984 to the present, is a founding co-sponsor of the Annual New York Toy Soldier Symposium, originally hails from Chicago, Illinois, but lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Rob

Where are you moving in the US ?

Ron

Hi Ron

We are looking at Round Rock near Austin, Texas at this stage.
Neither of us would realy have a clue about where to start but
from what we have found out this is as good a starting point as
anywhere.
Still not %100 sure we are going to take the plunge at this stage
[child #3 due in october kind of threw a spanner in the works :) ]
But if we dont enter the US by August we will loose our green cards
which would be a real shame as this would be a great opportunity to
realy see the US as opposed to being a tourist.

Cheers Rob

Well come on in....:D

Its nice to have someone who speaks english wanting to come to the US.

Why Texas?

Hi Rob,

Round Rock, Texas, in many ways, is a good choice. It in on Interstate Highway 35, just north of Austin. The area has really mushroomed and grown in recent years. The climate is relatively mild and the area is located very near the Texas Hill Country. I think you would like it there. I went to college very near Round Rock, but that was many years ago. The area is much more populated now than it was when I was in college.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Pat

Thanks for the info ,it confirms what a couple of people over here have told me .Its always better to get advice from someone who has actualy lived their.

Hi Ron ,why Texas .Not realy sure to be honest but some of the reasons Pat
mentioned played a part.California is the obvious choice coming from this part of the world easier to get to etc .But I have heard the cost of living is pretty
high. Its realy like a game of pin the tail on the donkey to be honest as i,ve
only ever visited LA in the US.

This line really made me laugh Ron. You have a very British sense of humour you do know that don't you? :)

I believe Benny Hill warped me many years ago  and Monty Python of course...

Now you need to track down Blackadder 2, 3 and 4. Though you maybe already have.

In fact you'd like 3 because it has a guest appearance by The Duke of Wellington! Your favourite!
Coming from a lobbyist background you might also like the episode where an election takes place
with Pitt the younger and Pitt the Even younger.

Texas is a good place to get a start in the US (I lived there for about 6 years). Cost of living is really low in comparison with California or New York, there is no State income tax, so you only have to pay Federal income tax, you can buy a great house for about 1/4 of what it would cost in my neck of the woods, and, of course, you are relatively close to Kings X, or K&C Texas as I like to think of it.

Texas is great ! Are you taking a new job??

The state of Texas is very big and has plenty to do - great food down there as well.

No Ron,

I am not moving back to Texas (although I am still admitted to practice down there). I was just giving some info to Vandilay, who is considering moving to the US and settling outside of Austin.

Vandilay,

If you do come, you will certainly have a lot of friends, myself included, who would love to show you around the rest of the Country when you get vacation time. You will always have a place to stay and a tour guide if you want to visit New York.

Hi Louis

Thanks for the info and the very generous offer,
I hadent even thought about Kings X :D
I,ve got a few mates over here with a vested interest
in me going ,America will end up shorter a couple of
65/66 fastback mustangs at least.

cheers Rob

When I was a kid, my father had a 69 Mach 1 with an obscenely big engine. I would have loved to have gotten my hands on it, but it ended up wrapped around a tree when I was around 12.

I wonder if that had anything to do with the engine size :D
my older brother has a 69 fastback and a 66 [not a mach 1]
Man the money he spends on those things makes this hobby
seem cheap.
A real shame about your dads car ,The interest in those cars
has realy gone through the roof in recent years.

Sorry - that was meant for Vandilay
