Hi all,

recieved my invite from Shannon/ Pete from Treefrog for the Appreication dinner being held at the Chicago show in Sept. and they also announced that Matt Pavone will be the quest speaker!! hopefully Matt will have some news or releases for the rest of 2015, hoping the trend of winter WWII continues, would love to go but not thinking it's possible this year...Sammy

Perhaps you could put some subtle pressure on Matt to produce the missing castle gateway^&grin, Robin.

That is really good news, It's a real testament to how First Legion are becoming a major force in the industry :salute::. Would be cool if they did a exclusive show figure and some goober bought em all up and sold them on ebay for a kings ransom ^&grin. Well maybe not the last part :wink2:.

I would prefer that FL NOT resort to and just doesn't need to do the exclusive "Show Figures Game":rolleyes2:....It's kinda cheesy IMO and completely unnecessary.....Just keep selling high quality 1:30th figures and AFV's and we will buy them^&grin....Very simple.:smile2:

Hi Frank,
It's not an exclusive show figure and it's not a game and they aren't meant to be sold. It's special gift we give our customers at our dinner that they look forward to receiving. Although it might be 'unnecessary' we enjoy giving our guests something special and unique to take home for their collection and we are very grateful to our speakers and their companies for providing a dinner figure. This year - a big thank you to Matt Pavone and First Legion for their generosity.

Shannon, Nothing wrong with giving guests a free gift but the facts are these show figures are often immediately sold in secondary markets for ridiculous prices by some individuals....so much so that it has almost become a joke and a knee jerk reaction to show figures.... I agree on this much a big thank you and congratulations is indeed in order to Matt Pavone and FL for producing great quality military miniatures....First Legion collectors who will not be attending the show ceratinly wish them continued success even if we don't get a "free gift".

One year one of my sisters thanked me quite profusely for my Christmas gift to her and then asked if I had kept the receipt. Once you give it away, it belongs to someone else. They can do with it as they wish.

Frank,
Try to remember all Ebay transactions involve two people. So your sentence above could equally read "show figures are often immediately bought in secondary markets for ridiculous prices by some individuals".

So to summarise, in your view it is better for dealers/manufacturers not to give way special event figures as this will stop people paying what they want to on Ebay for them.

Well Brett , I guess that I just don't get "the hype" surrounding the "exclusivity" of one single show figure....Simply seems to be much laudation about nothing overly significant.....What is one going to do with ONE free figurine:rolleyes2:....I guess sell it....Oh well to each their own ^&grin....Will you be attending the FL dinner to get your free gift?.:wink2:

So if someone wants sell to something like eg: 'tin foil' @ $x and then someone else is willing to pay $x for it then what's the issue, if they want it and are willing to pay that price, so what!
Wayne.

I have gotten many a show figure that I've kept such as the specially painted FJ; it's quite unique. I've also sold a couple because it wasn't what I collected. At any rate, I love getting these special figures and look forward to getting this one.

Brad, Is FL actually releasing a free show figure?? or is this just "speculation"?

Frank,

According to Shannon's post, a figure is being given but I wouldn't call it exactly free as the dinner is not free.

Likewise I think there are some who don't understand your "anti hype" posts on this subject. To certain collectors the "exclusivity" of such figures is what makes it worth their while to collect them. Each to their own.

You appear not to have been to previous events where there was a free figure, you are not going to the FL Chicago event and don't have to buy any of the figures that come out of such events. Yet it appears you feel the need to express a negative opinion on the matter. Not sure why you have to expend time commenting on a matter that simply has no effect on you.

As you well know I won't be attending the event. However I am sure those who do will appreciate the figure provided for them by TF/FL.

Now before this thread becomes all about what you don't like how about you leave it to those who do appreciate free gifts and FL in general.

Might as well just cancel it mate because YOU find it "It's kinda cheesy IMO and completely unnecessary" ^&confuse^&confuse

Don't worry about 99.9% who keep their figure and add it to their collection and are grateful for getting it in the first place !!

Sorry guys,

I think it's my fault the thread got a bit off track :redface2:. I inadvertently touched on a sore subject for my buddy Frank, is was just meant to be a little joke. We all know Franks thoughts on the secondary market as well as ebay and TS speculators ... so really no need to pile on him. But on the good side maybe I also stumbled onto the thought that there may well be a FL exclusive figure, IMO it would be cool and being the FL geek that I am I most likely would like to add it to my collection.

Oh, I did not know that Brad....and Gebs no fault at all as I know you were joking..... Oh well, all kidding aside and to be honest...If I was there or invited:wink2: I would love to get a free FL figure just like anyone else but I doubt that I would sell it. :salute::....To each there own.

Back On Subject: It would be interesting to actually hear what Matt and FL have in store for this upcomming year.:salute::...maybe someone can tape his talk as guess speaker.

Brad, in order to make your comment you would have to know the cost of the dinner. If the attendees are paying what would be the normal price for such a dinner then doesn't that mean the figure that is provided is free ? Admittedly you have to pay for the dinner to be eligible for the figure but in my view I would consider it a free figure.

For example at recent event I held attendees paid A$49, a fair price, for a steak and chicken buffet style dinner which included soup and dessert. They received a figure that would retail for A$54. I think attendees considered they received a free figure and appreciated it as such. If people had been charged $98 for the dinner then they could rightly say the figure was not free.

I guess people such as yourself and Frank have different ways at looking at the free figure scenario.

Brett

Good point Brett...Both myself (and Brad I'm sure) would agree with your logic reagrding the cost of a dinner and a free figure....Thank you for posting{sm4}.....Much appreciated.:salute::
