Konrad has insisted that I continue providing him with more gloss painted sets for his FIW collection. Firstly I must thank Konrad for his selection of figures for this How-To, namely the three Rogers Rangers which will enable me to use a bit more green paint than I would normally do! :p:D

From the title of this thread there won’t be any prizes for guessing what these figures will be doing, but I thought I would let Konrad explain his clever choice of figures and how he plans to display them.

I’m off to open the bags and get the cleaning and assembly done.

Thanks

Jeff

Re: FIW British Conference

Looks like another good one - Jeff -- I'll do my usual "rain-dance" to speed things along.

Re: FIW British Conference

Those are really great castings. I was really impressed by the line infantry, because there weren't very many makers, if any, who made British infantry from the Seven Years War, before Tradition brought these out. I don't think there were any currently made; you had to look for old Staddens, or Rose. I'm painting mine as the 20th Foot at Minden.

The facial expressions are well-executed, and the variety is good, too, with some figures hatted or capped, some without, and some bandaged and lightly wounded. And the level of detail on the casting comes through in the paint job.

As soon as I get a camera, I'll put up pictures of mine.

Can't wait to see you SBS, Jeff!

Prost!

Thanks for the offer Dick, but Wimbledon will probably put the mockers on the weather anyway!

Re: FIW British Conference

You may have cornered the market by buying up all the green paint my friend, but you try and get hold of some red for the Brits. Go on, you try. I've got the lot, gallons of the stuff. Ha! :p

Looking forward as always Jeff.

Re: FIW British Conference

Jeff,
I am very happy to see the castings all arrived and that the work can get started.
These eight figures are picked out of 3 different 8-piece sets from Tradition. Thanks to the great offer by Jeff I took the opportunity to assemble this group without having to buy all three sets. What I want to display along with a loghouse or a stockade section including some trees and bushes and such, is a group of Allies who discuss strategies or an upcoming battle or just meet to exchange news.
The three Redcoats are from Tradition set TR601 (British Infantry Command Set), the Rangers; the Major and the Stockbridge Indian are from TR611 (Roger's Rangers with Robert Rogers) and at last the Indian Chief is from the Set TR609 (Woodland Indians, British Allies).
Most of the other poses in each set were more battle-like, like shooting or attacking.
I am very confident they will make for a splendid display and looking forward to see the various steps of their finishing.
Very good that the Rangers are included so we finally actually see some "green" :D
Now Simon is really scaring me . Hope you have a stash of Redcoat-red left, Jeff !?!?!?

Re: FIW British Conference

Konrad,

Don't worry about the red, it's quite easily mixed using various shades of green  :D

Brad,

Many years ago when I used to wargame, the Seven Years War was one of my favorite periods and the club I belonged to re-fought the Battle of Minden!....Btw, The 20th Foot: later the Lancashire Fusiliers and now the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers were awarded Minden as a battle honour. Minden Day - The British Army still celebrates Minden Day with the infantry regiments and their successors having parades and dinners, decorating their hats and accoutrements with wild roses to commemorate the picking and wearing of the roses as they advanced through the countryside on 31st July and 1st August 1759.

Sorry, prattled on a bit there. Perhaps we should start a 18th Century or Tricorn thread?

jEFF

Exactly! :)

I haven't quite decide yet how to do the roses. I thought of rolling a piece of paper tightly, then cutting little slices, to represent the roses. A dot of CA and there they are.

Minden is a great subject, because of the variety of states represented on both sides.

Tradition's figures came along at just the right time.

Do you still have any of your figures from your wargaming phase? You should put up an album or two.

Prost!

The castings are just getting better and better from Tradition, these should paint up quite nicely given a fair wind (?) and plenty of green paint :D.

Here we are with the assembled castings and as usual with the new Tradition figures there was very little in the way of cleaning up to be done.

The figures after a couple of light coats of grey car primer and to really appreciate the detail I’ve shown the British officers and NCO together and the Rangers and Indians as another group. Plenty of detail to paint here .
