FIW British Command (2 Viewers)

Hi Jeff,
how are you? Hope everything is well.
Are you in negociations with Wraith to get a fair deal for the necessary supply of Redcoat-red :D?

Konrad,

Did some painting today, as per your instructions, strange as it seems there was one tin of red paint available down in my neck of the woods ;) so the British will be ok for their touch up coat later. :)

Hmmmph....must have missed that one.:p

Looking good Jeff. Looking forward to more.

Konrad,

Did a bit of painting today on the three Rangers and added the equipment - belts, sacks etc. Might have time later to do a bit more to the British Officers.

Jeff:

What kind of brushes are you using?

Njja

John,

I use good quality Sable brushes of various sizes, when I post the next set of progress photos tomorrow I'll include one showing the sizes of brush next to one of the figures.

Jeff

Great, I am really enjoying watching your figures come to life. A lot of our

members such as Kilted Vampire, Alexdakar, and you are very talented.

I like many others (I assume) have little in the way of artistic talent!!

With a lot of patience I have learned to blend colors but I have little chance

at the detailed work which makes the projects stand out.

I am making a photographic record of your painting progress.....perhaps

someday if I live another 50 years or so I might be able to do it!:D

Hi Jeff,

if your are posting your next pictures of progress tomorrow, please do before 4:00 pm Eastern Time. After that I will be on the way to the airport for a vacation back in the homeland, Germany.
No internet for about 11 days
That will be alright though. I will be busy to show my kids where I was hanging out back then.
Looking forward to the next chapter.

Another 50 years, that sounds about right
It always looks so easy and then if I dip a brush in the paint and do the first strokes on a figure, ...., well, I don't really want to say what my thoughts are
Guess it just needs many more attempts. Sure would be nice if I ever paint a figure myself that I like.
Just thinking about the troops I could assemble on a budget if just the paint strokes work out alright.
That would be cool.
Konrad

Ah c'mon you fellers... It only took my this long to learn how to paint. I am 46 now so, there is hope John

Thats what is so nice about this project. I would never have thought to paint

the colors the way he is doing it. I would have 13 bottles of paint open at the

same time.....brushes getting stiff, paint on my fingers......face glasses.

He makes it look so easy you just want to run out and try it tomorrow!!

Yes sure, not only can you paint you man a pretty nice repair garage!

I liked the part where you went over the Krupp Truck with a light wash to

blend it in!!

I'm thinking he ran it through the dishwasher??

Then there is Alexdakar with his light airbrushing & spray booth in his
man-cave!

Actually its pretty cool......if I tried to spray anything indoors the wife would

call Home Depot and they would be replacing all the carpet by the weekend!

Its all pretty cool, and lots of fun to watch!

Here is an example of Alexdakars work he painted the german staff car on

this NV05 road section.................I supplied the rock!::D

A bit more detail on the Rangers and British Officers. I have decided to remove the flag arm from the Ensign to make the painting a lot easier.
The existing Inians with the first of the colours applied.

These are the brushes that I use to paint with. Some have seen better days, but are used to paint large areas like cannons or animals etc.

Konrad,

Still time to pack your suit case then :D..........I would like to think that this project will be ready and awaiting final inspection for when you get back :)

Just as a bit of a tease :p I spoke to Steve Hare of Tradition about future releases of FIW sets and I think you will be very pleased.

Jeff

Good progress, Jeff! The green looks nice! :D

Speaking of green, the best green paint I ever had, for painting gloss toy soldiers, was from the old Pactra line, gloss enamel. I can't remember the catalog number, though I have it noted in my spreadsheet at home, but it went on like silk, and it was just the right shade for Jäger, sort of a Loden green. I had a bottle that lasted for years, and when it finally ran out, Pactra was long since absorbed by Testors, and that line was discontinued. I started using a Tamiya gloss enamel, but it's too dark a green, I can't see some of the molded detail on the figures I'm painting. There's another green in Tamiya's catalog, that's lighter, and so, a little closer to what I need, but it's matte, so I have to cover the figures in Future when I'm done.

There was a royal blue in that Pactra line, too, that was perfect, an exact match for Prussian tunics. That one, I still have.

Thanks for sharing your progress pics!

Prosit!
Brad
