Good progress, Jeff! The green looks nice! :D

Speaking of green, the best green paint I ever had, for painting gloss toy soldiers, was from the old Pactra line, gloss enamel. I can't remember the catalog number, though I have it noted in my spreadsheet at home, but it went on like silk, and it was just the right shade for Jäger, sort of a Loden green. I had a bottle that lasted for years, and when it finally ran out, Pactra was long since absorbed by Testors, and that line was discontinued. I started using a Tamiya gloss enamel, but it's too dark a green, I can't see some of the molded detail on the figures I'm painting. There's another green in Tamiya's catalog, that's lighter, and so, a little closer to what I need, but it's matte, so I have to cover the figures in Future when I'm done.

There was a royal blue in that Pactra line, too, that was perfect, an exact match for Prussian tunics. That one, I still have.

Thanks for sharing your progress pics!

Prosit!
Brad

Yeah, I'm trying to impress on Simon that Green is the way to go :D

Jeff

Just as a bit of a tease :p I spoke to Steve Hare of Tradition about future releases of FIW sets and I think you will be very pleased.

Jeff[/QUOTE]

Sounds good, very good.
Thanks for the tease. I am lucky that I am such a patient man, so I don't really want to know yet what's going to come out

Jeff

Well it might help if you didn't horde it all then Jeff :p
Anyway, I think we both know that red is the new green, and you're almost out of it :p

Figures are shaping up nicely.
Are those blue brushes Italeri?
I've got a few and for a relatively inexpensive brush, they seem to be wearing pretty well.

They are, as you say not bad for the price. Two new ones are made by Jarvis of Stockport and only a £1 each for pure sable. I should be able to paint the eyes without a squint now.

You paint your figures eyes with a squint? Or you paint your figures through squinted eyes?;)

Jeff:

Thanks for the photos of your brushes! I am following closely your progress,

and may even purchase some unfinished figures as I come across them.

Your nice work here makes me want to try my hand.......as feeble an

attempt as I know it would be.

John, the thing is that if you make a bit of a mistake, it's just a matter of touching up; I still do this after 35 years of painting. I would say that you should buy the best quality brushes that you can afford and I find I get a better finish if the paint is stirred thoroughly with a cocktail stick and dripped into a palette and then used from this.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff:

I appreciate your paint tips, they all make sense once someone mentions

them! I just bought a nice set of brushes, so I'm getting the itch! I don't

think Rembrandt has anything to worry about from my end.

You certainly make the process look like fun rather then mission impossible!

Jeff: hanks for the updates and thanks for the photos of your brushes you use. Almost makes a total amateur want to try.

This is the late arrival cleaned up and assembled. This is from the French set and will be painted appropriately.

Some great snaps Jeff. It's amazing how much detail that can be seen after a coat of primer.

Great Stuff !!!

Finished off the Rangers today..........

BLIMEY you don't hang about do you Jeff. They look out of this world. Konrad will be over the moon I am sure !!!

Hi Jeff,

You are truly talented. Those figures are wonderfully painted! My greatest compliments for an exceptional job! Thanks for letting us follow along.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks :) I need to get on with the British and Indians now and have them finished for when Konrad gets back from his holiday.

Jeff

Thanks John. I have managed to spend a little time today on the Indians. The newcomer is from the French set and has a blue coatee and leggings. Konrad has requested that the colour scheme be slightly different from the Tradition produced sets so I will be varying the colours a bit.
