The 51st Pennsylvania storms Rohrbach/Burnside Bridge at the Battle of Antietam, Sept 17, 1862. Led by Col Hartranft, the 51st carried two stands of National Colors as well as the regimental flag that day. Note: This is a re-posting on the Britain's thread. Chris

Don Troiani's splendid portrayal of the battle.

I've been at the bridge. On the Confederate side was a steep hill overlooking the bridge. It would be like shooting fish in barrel and resulted in the Confederate holding the bridge for a while. Nice depiction and dio.

The first book I read on the Battle of Sharpsburg was by Murfin, 'A Gleam of Bayonets' and his telling of the struggle for Burnside's Bridge was a real eye-opener for me. The Confederates that were tasked with holding the bridge were a couple of Georgia regiments under Toombs, if I remember correctly, and were severely understrength, numbering no more than a few hundred men. Terrific book. -- Al

Very nice diorama. Like the way you hide the bases.{bravo}}

Chris,
That is one awesome diorama. The placement of the framed DT print rounds out the installation to perfection!
Thank you for the wonderful images- Joe

Chris

As already said on another thread you've done a superb job and it doesn't take much imagination to put yourself in the midst of the battle ! :salute::

Fabulous pictures Christ :salute::

Reminds me a little of when I was a member of SoSkAn back in the 70's and we did a 3 day reenactment at SYON PARK just outside London..........though you have far more figures than we had members:wink2:

Stay safe

Martyn:)

Guys, thanks for the kind remarks and like votes. Glad you liked the dio. :salute:: Chris

"Did you convert the FL officer figure?" Yes, the arm came off the fig while handling and was re-attached to more closely resemble the officer in the print.

Thanks. There were three bridges in the area. One collapsed in the 1880s or 1890s. Over $2M was spent on renovations for this bridge about 4 yrs ago. Glad the bridge is being preserved. Chris
