Thought this might be something different. What food is more or less particular to the area where you live and not normally found elsewhere. For example. I'm from St Louis and we have toasted ravioli, BBQ pork steaks and gooey butter cake.

I'd say Lobster Roll, Baked Beans, Coffee Milk (more RI than MA though), Hot roast beef sandwiches (served with a sweet barbecue sauce and usually on an onion roll), Greek Pizza (bleh) and Steamed Clams (soft shell) top the list.

For NY City with over 30,000 restaurants its difficult to pick favorites or uniqueness but here goes.....
"Kosher Deli" (Hot Pastrami, Corned Beef and Frankfurters with sauerkraut), Pizza,
Steak (Peter Luger's), Chinese food (the Borough of Queens has the largest Chinatown
outside of China itself) and the city has the most Japanese restaurants outside of Japan.
Great Italian food abounds in the city as well.

My NY friends can add to this list.......

"Kosher Deli" (Hot Pastrami, Corned Beef and Frankfurters with sauerkraut), Pizza,

outside of China itself) and the city has the most Japanese restaurants outside of Japan.

Don't forget about the best pizza and bagels in the world. Or I can drive south for a Philly cheese steak. And don't forget about PORKROLL !

Seafood is big in Seattle since we are also close to Alaska: salmon, mussels, oysters, king crab and Dungeness crab! Bon appétit !

I love these lists. I have visited 48 of the 50 states and always make it a point to try out restaurants that have regional specialties or favorites. So far, everything sounds great except for the scrapple which I tried once in 1968. I check out TripAdvisor when I am traveling to a new place and pick restaurants from their lists. I also have written TripAdvisor reviews on many of the restaurants I have tried both here in the states and abroad.

I am particularly fond of Italian cuisine and eat it as often as I can although it is not particular to the greater Los Angeles area. In fact, I would be hard pressed to name something that this area is famous for, but the French Dip sandwiches at Phillipe's in downtown L.A. near Union Station (which has been around for about 100 years) are hard to beat. Anyway, here are some photos from a little Italian restaurant in La Vern, California called Café Allegro that we frequent several times a month.

We basically have every food there is. Ever ethnic group that has migrated to NY has brought their food to the City.

When I used to live on the upper East Side, I could get great German food, Czech food and Chinese food, all within a 15 block area.

If you can't get it here, it doesn't exist!
 
We eat a lot of spam here. Fry it crispy. I had spam and eggs for breakfast this morning. Hawaiian food would be our unique food. Kalua pig, Lau lau, poi, squid luau, poke (raw fish)...I love it all. I've had scrapple in Pennsylvania and its good fried crispy.
 


I believe they are popular in certain parts of Western Australia and also in the North Island of NZ..............^&grin
 
OMG don't get me started!!!!! Fooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!! The eats, the meats, the midnight fajitas! South Texas own flair oh good lawd where to begin?
