Of course not all English people are hooligans, I guess these people are just a very, well, let's say it this way, vocal minority. I also believe there is good press or TV in England. The Times? The BBC? These are very respected institutions here in Portugal, what's your opinion on them? I would also like you to excuse me for any excesses I might have committed on these posts, but they are not directed at English people but at some press sensationalism.
If you'd like to visit Portugal, it'll be my pleasure to help in any way I can, just contact me via this forum or e-mail if you wish. By the way, it's Torres Vedras ( some Wellington connection here I guess...). The mountains, well the highest is Serra da Estrela, you can ski there in winter. I would also look into visiting the islands, Azores and Madeira, something special indeed.
Warm regards,
Paulo

Thank you for your kindness. The BBC and Times are relatively good I grant you, but our tabloids must be amongst the worst on the planet.
Are there any remains of Torres Vedras?
Kevin

VIRIATO said:Hi Kevin,
Yes, there are remains. Apart from today's city ( pop. 22 000 ) there are monuments, including the Torres Vedras lines ( fortifications ), used by the Portuguese and the English ( Wellington ) to defend Portugal against the Napoleonic invasions. Here's a link, although in Portuguese it has photos: http://www.cm-tvedras.pt/visitar/monumentos/
