Gentle Friends,

Jeff (aujj65) has asked me to post a few pictures of some of the Beau Geste figures that are included in my collection. I am pleased to respond to Jeff's request and to provide a few pictures for viewing by Jeff and any other interested persons.

As a place to begin, I have posted below a few pictures of Beau Geste Set #167, French Foreign Legion Marching With Sombreros, Mexico 1863. The first photo provides a view of the entire set, which is composed of a mounted officer, four marching soldiers, and small a dog accompanying the group. The remaining three pictures provide a view of the mounted officer and the dog as seen from three different angles. I hope you enjoy the set.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Gentle Friends,

Ana and the Boyz frequently provide a detail that endears their sets to the owners. In the case of the French Foreign Legion Marching with Sombreros, the little dog quickly becomes the star of the set. The dog provides a warmth to the set that would otherwise be absent.

Posted below, you should see a view of the star of this show. I hope you enjoy him as much as I do.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thanks Pat, those are some really nice sets you have there. Like you say the little dog makes the grouping something more than just another set of French Foreign Legion.
I think it’s a dead cert that we would like to see more of your collection. Thanks for taking the time to show these. :)

Jeff

These guys are so crisp and clean... makes me want to get on the Santa Maria and explore different periods and certainl the late 19th, early 20th obscure colonial times. I just wish there were more boats available for the lake campaigns! Fantastic pieces and photos , Pat . Thanks for helping take my mind off the daily grind. Mike

Hi Jeff,

You're welcome. Give me a little time and I will post some pictures of additonal Beau Geste sets I have. However, I should warn you. My Beau Geste Collection is heavily weighted toward the 1903 Delhi Durbar.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Randy,

You would think I could offer a simple answer to a simple question. However, I find it necessary to provide you with four answers to your question. :D After all, I am retired from an academic community, so you should expect me to provide a long, rambling response to your question.

1) As you noted, I collect the 1903 Delhi Durbar. My friend, Dave, introduced me to the Durbar and I quickly developed a passion for it. The event itself is an exciting, enchanting, and impressive event to study. The more one knows about the Durbar, the more one wants to have figures that reproduce the splendor of the event. Now that I have mentioned the Durbar, let me move on to answer your question about other eras and subjects.

2) I added the French Foreign Legion in Mexico set to my collection for two specific reasons. The first reason is I was captivated by the uniqueness of the subject matter, the beauty of the figures and the charming presentation of the set. The second reason is that my Daughter-in-law is a citizen of Mexico and I knew this set would bring a warm smile to her face. While my collecting reflects my personal interests, it is not uncommon to discover that bringing pleasure to my family members is also among my interests and included in my hobby. :)

3) The inclusion of the German Imperial Navy Band set in my collection is the result of a tradition I have established with my wife, Diane. My wife is particularly fond of bands and each year that I attend OTSN in Chicago, I take her to the Beau Geste room and she picks out a band she would like to see in my collection. The first year we attended OTSN, she picked the German Imperial Navy Band. As a result, it is one of my most prized sets.

4) Finally, I must add that while I actively pursue several specific lines of figures produced by a variety of manufacturers (i.e., Delhi Durbar, Ancient Egyptians, Napoleonics, Samurai, Battle of the Bulge, etc.), I also purchase sets that simply impress me for one reason or another. I do so without regard to manufacturer, era, subject, etc. I simply purchase them because I like them. And,...in the case of Beau Geste, there are a huge number of extremely interesting and attractive sets to like and from which to choose.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Hi Mike,

I must thank you for supplying me with words for which I have been searching that help describe these wonderful sets. "Crisp and clean" clearly and accurately describes the Beau Geste figures. The sculpting, the painting, the poses, and the attention to detail are all "crisp and clean!"

And, you are most welcome if viewing my figures helped provide you with some relief from your daily grind!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Thank you for your most interesting answer to your collection policy,
It all makes a lot of sense.

Gentle Friends,

It is no secret that most of my Beau Geste figures are from Ana's wonderful Delhi Durbar line. I posted these pictures on the forum back in November. I am reposting them on this thread in case you missed them.

The set you see below is a wonderful Beau Geste Delhi Durbar set of figures, Set #91, the Kashmir Giants with Gertrude Bell. The set includes a figure of Gertrude Bell. Gertrude Bell was a young English lady who traveled widely throughout the Middle East and through India. She kept an extensive journal of her travels and everywhere she went, she took numerous pictures of the sights she saw.

Ms. Bell was among the many persons who witnessed the 1903 Delhi Durber and, true to form, she took many photographs of the events and the people associated with the Durbar. It is my understanding that some of Ms. Bell's photographs have been used to design Delhi Durbar figures and sets.

The set illustrates Gertrude Bell photographing the famous Kashmir Giants. The Giants were a pair of soldiers who measured 7 feet and 4 inches in height. As a result, the Giants towered over their soldierly colleagues.

You should find attached five photographs of this wonderful set. I have outlined what you will see in each photograph below:

1.) Picture #1 - This photograph presents the entire set including the Giants, their brothers-in-arms, and Gertrude Bell with her camera.

2.) Picture #2 - In this photograph, you will find the figure of Ms. Bell and her camera.

3.) Picture #3 - This picture illustrates the height difference between the Giants and their colleagues.

4.) Want to compare the height of Ms Bell with that of the Kashmir Giants? Simply glance at picture #4 for such a comparison.

5.) Picture #5 - I include this picture so you might see the reverse of the figures.

I find this set to be very special as I know of no other Toy Soldier Company that has produced a set that includes the Kashmir Giants and/or a figure of Gertrude Bell. I am most proud to include this set in my Delhi Durbar collection. I hope you enjoy seeing the figures.

If you are patient and wait a few more days, I will post more pictures of the Beau Geste figures in my collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)
