I don't know about a Grant but there are photos and maybe movies of an M4A1 being tested at Kummersdorf, Germany in 1943. In some of the photos is a Panther D, a new tank at the time. The M4A1 was nicknamed "War Daddy II" and was captured from the US 1st Armored Division in Tunisia by 1/sPzAbt 501 on 2/22/43. The story goes that the green American crew abandoned their tank as the Tigers approached and the Sherman was captured in perfect working order. The tank was shipped to Germany, still in full US markings and was tested at the Wehrmacht proving ground. At the time the Germans were more impressed with the M4A1 than most post-war history writers.

Just checked it out,its the Kursk episode of 'Battlefields' ,it contains Black and White film of a Tiger 1 and a Panther going up a steep embankment and passing a Grant Tank in the middle.

I have heard that an m8 mortor carriage was in the works along with a m3 honey

OK, Brian. I retract my vote for a Sherman, since I just bought a couple. :) Russian armor would be terrific!!

I don't think anyone has done an M8.?
Terry

Quite right - the M8 75mm Howitzer Motor Carriage (I have heard it called a "Scott" by British modelers, who seem to love names, but it never had one in US service) has been done in a mediocre quality kit in 1/35th by Tamiya and is to be done by AFV Club "sometime" in the future. Other than a resin kit in 1/35th the M8 hasn't been done in large scale.

The M8 served in the Assault Gun Platoon of tank battalions until replaced by the 105mm Shermans, also in the Assault Gun Platoon of armored infantry battalions and in "E" Troop of Mechanized Cavalry Squadrons. They were also used by the French (whose armor units were generally organized along American lines).
