I got an e-mail that said this:
"Dear Online Club member,
Mid-Autumn Festival - a colorful festival!
Mid-Autumn Festival also known as Moon Festival is on 15th Aug - Lunar calendar. ( 12th Sept on Western calendar this year ) The moon is the biggest, roundest and brightest on the day. 'Round' implies 'reunion' and 'complete' in Chinese thus the Moon Festival is a time for family to enjoy a 'feast' together.
“Moon cakes” are also an important part of the festivities. Many years ago in the 14th Century, a revolt against the Mongols developed, and messages of the revolution were written on paper, then baked into the cakes. The secret messages were smuggled to the revolutionists. Nowadays moon cakes are given to friends and relatives during the festival to ' celebrate' the success of the revolution."
Maybe they split the difference between August 15 and Sept 12 and Sept 1 is Moon Cake day in China.
Seriously...it think it's usually later in the day (it's still Aug 31 on the West Coast in America, I seem to recall the last one coming in at 2AM or so here), so maybe in a few hours?
Surely it is not a Chinese public holiday today ???
