Was looking at the Thomas Gunn advert in the latest issues of Britain at War during a vist to London earlier today and was intrigued to see a new item - described as an "Axis Human Torpedo". It's sitting on a trolly with two crewmen "suiting-up". It's the type the Italian Navy used to put the battleships HMS Valiant and HMS Queen Elizabeth on the bottom of Alexandria Harbour at the end of 1941. I don't think the Kriegsmarine used that particular design. The Royal Navy copied the Italian design for its "Human Torpedoes" so perhaps we might see a RN version sometime. Obviously after starting a range of flying "secret weapons", TG is now turning to martime ones as well! How about an X-Craft!

It might possibly even look like this. ROYAL NAVY, TWO MAN SUBMARINE (WW II "CHARIOT", MK I, WITH 2 CHARIOTEERS IN SLADEN DIVING SUITS AND SIEBE, GORMAN & CO., LTD. BREATHING GEAR, AUGMENTED WITH LATER SCUBA GEAR, CIRCA 1943). Modified from W. Britains set #NB 4302. CHARIOT PAINTED DULL OLIVE GREEN(BITUMASTIC) TO SPECIFICATION CONTAINED IN HANDBOOK OF CHARIOTS, OFFICE OF ADMIRAL(SUBMARINES), NORTHWAYS, LONDON, N.W.3, OCT, 1942, MOST SECRET. Also see; UNDERSEA WARFARE, R. HUMBLE, CHARTWELL BOOKS, NEW YORK, 1981; PP. 94-95, 100; THE MIDGET RAIDERS, C. WARREN & J. BENSON, W. SLOANE ASSOC., NEW YORK, 1954; COMBAT FROGMEN, MICHAEL WELHAM, PATRICK STEPHENS LTD., NORTHHAMPTONSHIRE, ENGLAND; CHAPTER 3. Would be interesting.

Yes that's what it looks like - but the crew are not riding the Chariot. I don't know the exact differences (if there were any) or their significance, between the Italian and British machines.

This news is very interesting. I can't wait to see the final product! I like the direction that TGM is going with units that other manufacturers are not producing. Very cool.

Was it something like these ?
