I thought I would start a thread where we could all post the treasures we manage to find in the wee hours on E-bay.

I know some people hate it (as I do on occasion) but actually it is one Giant Antique & Collectibles Show with a tent that stretches around the globe.

I had only seen the Long Range Desert Group Jeep Set SAS01 in photos before I stumbled on it one morning.

After a rough trip across the ocean and through customs it arrived on my doorstep today! Kind of like christmas in July.

Here is a shot of the guys after a brief rest and a hot meal. I shot is next to the dingo for scale.

Next one is a little village they were heading through.

It is really awesome! Valuable for a serious collector. DO you have any other collection related to this item?

Yes, that is why I enjoy E-bay so much during my day. I also collect Lionel trains, dinky toys, smith miller, K&O outboards, Model kits from the 1950's, knives, military swagger sticks........come to think of it the list of what I don't collect might be shorter.

E-bay gives you the chance to find difficult items you have searched for years to find.

Here is another example, when I was a kid a neat cereal premium was the Nabisco Spoonman. Inside specially marked boxes of Shredded Wheat Cereal were either Crunch, Munchy or Spoonsize the three figures that slid onto the narrow part of your spoon and rode along while you ate your breakfast.......in the case of shredded wheat it was more like chewing straw! Well in later life I began a quest to find a couple of these figures from the 1950's. I went to 100's of antique shows and never saw one. When I discovered E-bay 10+ years ago I began looking for them again. Thanks to Ebay I have a dozen or so, and they regularly bring $100 each when they are offered!

Here is a photo of the guys sitting on a Spoonman Tray!

Second photos has a couple of the smaller Spoonsize figures, a couple of Dinky racers, and the gang from Camp Swampy.

Another interesting assortment of figures was produced by Bergan Toy, a small local N.J. company that was producing early plastic items for the US during WWII. After the war they began using their new equiptment to make interesting toy figures.

The pieces are difficult to find in nice shape, and you would have to be very lucky to find a piece or two at a show. Through E-bay I have put together all the pieces I remember my older cousins having when I was a child.

Here are a couple of photos of their different figures.

King & Country RAF Ground Crew + one lone German Pilot made its way safely from Hong Kong, through US customs and on to new base today.

Another reason why E-bay isn't really that bad!

Looks like Kilroy got to the oil drum.

Thank you for posting

My latest find was a Conte ZW KR set #2. Of course I just missed the set #1 I really wanted but maybe next time.

Interesting stuff. Perhaps this would be a good thread to post items not routinely collected. I enjoyed looking at the unique items. Any more?:D

Recent great Ebay Pickups:

1. Zulu Rorkes Drift Set 1 from Conte (FINALLY!)

2. Rare K&C Del Prado Napoleon seated with his foot on the drum.

For different items, here are a couple of Dinky Trucks I picked up awhile ago. In front we have a #504 Foden Mobilgas tanker, one in back is #943 Leyland Octopus Esso tanker. Beautiful classic toys of 1950's-1960's.

Second is a current item I am watching, it is listed as a King & Country German Dictator in brown shirt......but which figure is it?

Any help? I have not been able to locate when or which set it is from.

Well done sir! Those are 2 really great acquisitions. I usually keep a close eye on stuff, but I didn't even see these. Congrats.

I would have to check my research redwell to be sure, but its either from LAH5 (two figures of Hitler) or its from the Axis Leaders Set.

I just picked up a Heco tin AEC Matador WWII British Lorry. It is one of the nicest Heco pieces in my collection, and I couldn't be more thrilled, as I paid about $50 less than retail back in the 80's and 90's.

Here are a couple of shots of the Truck Louis just picked up (hope you don't mind)

Its a Heco Matador Drop Side Truck and it looks pretty cool. I bet it will find a nice spot on his airfield!

Wow, that Heco gear sure had some good detail.

It's all hand done from tin. You should see the undercarriage - totally accurate and the front wheels actually turn (right and left) and all four wheels roll. I also have a Heco Tiger Tank, WWI British Mark IV Tank, and I recently gave a friend a WWI Rolls Royce Half Track Command Vehicle. All have excellent detail along with that wonderful old toy feel you get from tin.

Heco, however, are more famous for their planes. I have an even dozen assorted WWI planes, but I really want to find one of their WWII planes. They made a Spitfire, a P51D Mustang, and, even a 1:32 scale Lancaster!

Ah good for you, you didn't haven't to get the one that ended early did you?;)

If you are referring to the Conte Zulu set 1, yes, I made a Godfather offer!

Honestly, got tired of missing this one as Set 2 has been an orphan for quite some time.

I will get pictures of Napoleon up by the 4th.
