A new series of Foley's War starts tonight on Masterpiece Theatre, at least in the New York area. Not sure where it else it may be playing nationally.

I guess you mean Foyle's War, unless this is another example of 'American spelling' ;) I luv Foyle's War, and most other Brit Detective shows like 'A Touch of Frost', 'Inspector Morse' etc.

Its a wonderful programme isn't it.It recently finished over here when the chief of ITV decided to axe it as one of his very last decisions before leaving the company. This baffled and upset a huge amount of viewers and there is now talk of it returning.I hope so as it was very enjoyable indeed.

Have you caught any of the Brit series Midsomer Murders-usual Brit detective show with John Nettles as the Inspector based in the quaint little English fictional county of Midsomer.
It's been running since about '97 and a rough calculation I would say is that we have had over 230 murders in this one small area-making it the No 1 murder spot in Europe.
There are about 17 surviving inhabitants left in the county and the new 2008 series should just about see them off and assume then Nettles can retire- either that or Nettles is the mass murderer himself-Can't wait!

HI Rob, yeah you Brits still make the best cop shows in the world, and especially good when mixed with WWII. I hope it does come back, but then it was a bit off and on over the years. We have had some good Aussie cop shows but few and far between. As for US cop shows my fav is 'Criminal Intent' with the cop played by Vincent D'Orofino.

Btw I've just heard some good news in that Big Brother Australia has finally been axed.

Yep Reb, seen em all and got most on DVD. I used to watch him in an early cop show called 'Bergerac' which was based on the Island of Jersey. I'm also a keen Dr Who fan and the the actress that played Leela on Dr Who was Begerac's love interest in Bergerac for a while, but she never looked better than when in that little leather outfit ;)

Congrats Oz! If only they'd do it over here. There's always hope as the ratings appear to slide every year.A bigger pile of Horse manure you'd be hard pressed to find imho.

To right. Call me shallow Oz, but the only good thing about the show were when they televised an hour of the naughty bits late at night once a week. They even stopped that last year because of PC problems, and a few sexual assault charges - no sense of humour some people.

Its amazing its gone on as long as it has.The bosses at C4 must be killing themselves laughing, stick a load of people in a room for two months and film them hating each other, talk about cheap tv.We need more Poirot/Midsomer/Foyles war in my opinion.I was even watching The Sweeney the other day,in its day it was wonderful exciting drama that had us all hooked,if a tad violent!.

I guess reality tv seemed like a free to air saviour at one stage but you can only fool some of the people for so long.

I've got a few Poirot dvd's as well and it's one of the harder shows to pick the 'baddie'.

Poirot is so popular over here and i think there is still plenty of adaptations of the books to come.

Rob

Some great mystery series have come to us from Great Britain (though if you think about it, if this many people were getting murdered, at this rate, the UK would have been emptied long ago-the "Cabot Cove" effect :D )

There have been Poirot, Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke, Lovejoy (what a great concept-an antiques dealer who solves crimes!).

Prost!

My mistake. It is Foyle's War. Last night's episode was pretty good and am looking forward to the rest.

I caught the last half hour of Foyle's War last night, and I really enjoyed it. I have always loved the British Mystery series on PBS. like the one with the upper class inspector and his assistant the working class female sergeant, I can't think of their names.

That reminds me of Inspector Morse, with John Thaw, another great series imported to US TV from Britain. Also, the Anna Lee series with Imogen Stubbs.

Prosit!

Hmmm, dunno about that Rob.
I've never seen the show so I can't comment.

Cheers

Believe me H its utter bilge. This is the programme that made a celebrity out of a young woman who thought Norfolk 'was abroad' and the Royal Family ACTUALLY had Blue blood.A ****ing statement of our education system indeed.

Louis, is it The Inspector Linley Mysteries, with Havers his red headed fiesty Sergeant.
