FPW01-FPW12 Franco-Prussian War French Infantry! *NEW SERIES* (2 Viewers)

Very promising range.
Hope to see firing poses of French and German infantry not just marching as usual. Also is very necessary to have such a specific type of weapon as mitrailleuse.

It's early for "asking"...i read that there are already sculpted personalities, algerian infantry, prussian and cavalry...by the way it is a range with many possibilities of vignettes reproducing historical paintings. Lot of inspiration!!!

Carl Becker also made some nice paintings. Although not within the purview of the Franco Prussian War, Charles Woolley’s book The Kaiser’s Army in Color Uniforms of the Imperial German Army as illustrated by Carl Becker - 1890-1910 is a must have for anyone interested in late 19th Century History. It’s published by Schiffer Military History and should still be available on Amazon.

The plates in this book were the basis for the figures that Beating Retreat made for me.

Nice book Brad, a good pick up for anyone interested in the study of Imperial German Uniforms.

Great post; the artwork from the period is outstanding, specifically the works of De Neuville and Detaille, it was part of the inspiration for me to begin collecting the period, the fighting in the cemetery at Gravelotte St. Privat is in my top five military artworks for me...…………….

Warrior,
Would you mind uploading a copy of these paintings?
Thanks

Ok, will give it a shot, this forum gives me an ice cream headache when it comes to uploading pictures, I don't run into this problem with any of the other forums I belong to...……..

Thank you.
Can you recommend a good book on the war?

Douglas Fermer has written two books on the subject, one deals with the battles up to Sedan, the other the defense of Paris.

There are two other books I'd recommend on the Battles of Spicheren and Worth by Henderson.

A recent book called The Last Roll of the Dice is available, it's on my reading list.

Thank you.
Can you recommend a good book on the war?
I addition to George's recommendations, there is a good book by David Ascoli titled 'Day of Battle: Mars-la-Tour, 16 August 1870' and the classic history of the war by Michael Howard, 'The Franco-Prussian War. Quintin Barry also has several titles about the war. -- Al

The Fall Of Paris by Alistair Horne
I have enjoyed everything I have read by Alistair Horne. His original trilogy on French military history included 'The Fall of Paris', 'Verdun:1916', and 'To Lose a Battle' about the fall of France in 1940, are all outstanding. His later work on the French in Algeria, 'A Savage War of Peace', is also outstanding. -- Al

Knotel is also one of my favorite artists...…..

Hard to beat the war art of the FPW, especially considering the brilliant artists that were working at the time. The war art from that period is the best there is, IMO. -- Al
