I've been doing a bit of research on figures that came out before I started collecting. I see there were 8 Dragoons (NA39 - 46) and another 4 (NA78 - 81) somewhat later. I see that each group has a guidon carrying figure, can someone tell me if they are meant to be the same regiment?

Larso,
Yes they are the same Regt. 78-81 were also done in a slightly different paint scheme as a special run of 350 which sold out quick (5 + years ago).
Long gone and some have got high prices on Ebay.
Regards
Brett

Great figures by the way! I've seen some for sale from time to time but prices are getting high ($100+).

They are all from the Empress Dragoons, an elite unit formed in 1806 to be part of the Imperial Guard led by 60 officers hand picked by Napoleon from Dragoon Regiments. The 296 men of the 1st Escadron were velites (aspiring officers). The Empress Dragoons had 2 additional Escadron of 476 men each and this was eventually increased to 4 additional Escadron. The dragoons' uniform and weaponrs was the same as the Guard's mounted grenadiers, but with green jackets instead of blue.

Thank you gentlemen! I liked the colours and thought how they would have added something to my display but it was quite apparent they were long gone and essentially for me, impossible to get. It's interesting that, counting the Dutch Lancers, there have been three French Cav units issued to just the one British (Scots Greys). Has anyone got the whole French 'Brigade'? I'd love to see some pictures of them in action if anyone has the time.

You need to narrow your collection parameters and purchase these figures. To help fund your purchase I am prepared to take your cavalry off your hands - it takes up far too much of your display cabinet anyway!

I can pay - but it will be less than what your paid, because after all, they're second hand now!

Toy soldier shop run coming up for us both soon!

Larso,

well spotted.....

NA040.jpg

NA040 has the Guidon (flag) from 1804 - 1811 pattern, with the corner triangles in red or blue and a white diamond centre.

NA078.jpg

NA078 has the 1812 pattern Guidon of the French Tricolour.

Both are from the Empress Dragoons of the Imperial Guard.

Intersingly the bugler, NA043 is wearing the blue jacket which was worn prior 1810 but following the marriage of Napoleon to Marie-Louise the Austrian Princess, the jackets of the buglers were changed to white, like the Austrians.
NA043.jpg

The Special editions of NA078 to NA081 represent the 4th Dragoon Regiment with the red facings... BUT they shouldn't be wearing aguilettes on thier right shoulder, as aguilettes were only worn by Imperial Guards.

I hope this explains the diffenrt figures.

Its a pity my Napoleonic collection of K&C started after these were retired, as I'd love to get all of the dragoons into my cabinets ..... any for sale ???

Larso, I don't have the whole bgde but here are some pics of the French horse troops in action. Some of the dragoons go on ebay for $175+. There are a few CS figs in the mix.

Jack - I'm pretty sure there's a commandment against coveting thy neighbours toy soldiers.

That said, thanks to those great pictures, I badly want a few of these dragoons. Hopefully the next set coming out will be so good that I'll be able to settle for them.

Excellent display Terp!

Larso Be careful. After all those years at Catholic school I don't like having the Bible quoted to me, particularly the Old Testament.

But back to toy soldiers - I love the diorama by Terp152 of the British Square and the French cavalry. Gives me something to aim for as I begin collecting. It reminded me of the painting by Philippoteaux titled 'Battle of Waterloo' which shows the same scene. I have a framed print of it above my fireplace (which I had installed to cope with the vicious Brisbane winters when I start to wear long sleeved shirts).

That is a sizable investment you have there in your Napoleonics! {eek3} All those multiples look great, a very impressive diorama. I only dabble in the Napoleonic era thru vignettes, mostly because I can't afford all those multiples as I've got many pieces from other era's I like to collect. I missed many of the early French Napoleonic Cavalry releases. I've only managed to pick up KCS 075 (Mounted 4th Dragoon) and I have the collector's club dragoon bugler.....for now. :wink2:

I'll bear this in mind when we next go back to Brett's, and steer you away from the Black Watch to the Life of Jesus cabinet.

See this grat cavalry! K/C's Dragoons and Cuirassiers are the best Napo cavalry so far; I didn't bought the Dutch Lancers, they do not look so well as the first two waves of cavalry...

You could buy that figure of the French working girl...and they say art cannot imitate life!

"The one in uniform".

Yes, just what I was thinking. She seems a bit more 'knowing' somehow? I don't think the sculptor has spent all his time watching soldiers.....

Or perhaps he has spent too long watching soldiers given that he dresses his women in uniform.
