Caught up with a buddy of mine a couple weeks ago. He was a platoon leader with the 3ID (Rock of the Marne!!) in Baghdad. He's out now and teaching in Georgia.
Anyway, he knew I was interested in historical curios and items. He said it was unreal how much Afrika Korps material is being sold in the markets there in Baghdad. He said you could easily get daggers and helmets for $5- $10 each and the quality of the items was pretty good. He said a few of the Iraqi merchants told him "We, have more to show you, just follow us back here." Needless to say, he didn't take any of them up on those offers
Pretty interesting to see how much history has passed through that country.
Anyway, just thought this might be a fun story since, especially in the KC thread, there is so much AK discussion.
