Caught up with a buddy of mine a couple weeks ago. He was a platoon leader with the 3ID (Rock of the Marne!!) in Baghdad. He's out now and teaching in Georgia.

Anyway, he knew I was interested in historical curios and items. He said it was unreal how much Afrika Korps material is being sold in the markets there in Baghdad. He said you could easily get daggers and helmets for $5- $10 each and the quality of the items was pretty good. He said a few of the Iraqi merchants told him "We, have more to show you, just follow us back here." Needless to say, he didn't take any of them up on those offers :D

Pretty interesting to see how much history has passed through that country.

Anyway, just thought this might be a fun story since, especially in the KC thread, there is so much AK discussion.

Yeah, me too- he seems none the worse for wear, kind PO'd because he is behind in getting some classes knocked out for his Masters.

So HALO- are we talking High Alt Low Opening or does your name connotate some impression of divinity- as in an angel wearing a HALO?? ;):D:D

The first one.

HOOAAHH!!! You are definately a braver man than I!! I met a Navy Corpsman who claims to have been involved with one of the lowest ground jumps in history- 700 feet- who knows??

Take Care Bro

Good ole 5th ID. I was there 88-90. That was hell on earth.

HA!! You said it!! I often comment that if I have to drive in the Gulfcoast region ever again I will intentionally drive completely around Louisiana to avoid ever accidentally going to Polk.

At least I got a 65 day reprieve between Peason Ridge and NTC.:D
