Particularly at the beginning of the war many Confederate units were clad in more colourful uniforms than the drab grey or butternut of the later years of the war where supplies became more scarce. Local pre war militia wowed by the romance of war adopted more colourful European style uniforms. Cavalry regiments resembled more the cavaliers of the English Civil War and most famous of all was the French North African style Zouave uniforms of the Louisiana Tigers. They fought with distinction in many early Civil War battles. Heavy irreplaceable losses meant that eventually this unit and its distinctive uniform was merged with other Confederate infantry regiments.

Really like the fort Gary. Very partial to tortoise formation, impressive stuff. Inspiring me to drag some Romans out a set up a display to join the battle. Robin.

Moving back a few hundred years and the Peloponnesian wars of 431 to 404 BC. Sparta takes on the Greek city states and principally Athens. Sparta defeated Athens in 404 BC ending the war but Spartan rule was unstable and Persian sponsored rebellion soon ended the fledgling Spartan empire. Spartan forces in this diorama end a siege of a small walled Greek town.

I like the way you have used the latest TG Greeks and Romans, Gary. The Ancient era has a vast period of history and one could go on forever recreating scenes from the past. Looks like you have one of the largest collections on the Forum and you have good ideas on how to display them. Regards Greg.

The Pacific ocean in the late 18th/early 19th century and a British warship puts a shore party on a remote Polynesian island to take on fresh water and provisions. The only problem, having been ripped off before, the locals are none too pleased to see them.

1919 and weary from WW1 allied troops including British lend support to the White Russians in an attempt to overthrow the Bolsheviks and protect allied interests in the region. Marching west from Vladivostok a British soldier is captured. A rescue attempt is made by his comrades. Early post revolution chaos, conflicting interests and little domestic public support lead to British troops, along with their allied companions, being withdrawn from active service in 1920.

Gee Gary, this Elephant dominates the arena, it's a beauty. I know you are thrilled with it. Your scenes look terrific. Robin.

Thanks guys. The TG elephant is a great piece. I only had a short time for this diorama. Displayed with the Collectors Showcase it becomes more impressive.

A great scenario there Gary, with the TG figures being used exactly in the type of scene they ideally fit !

South West England 878 AD and Alfred King of the West Saxons defeats the Danes at the battle of Edington. Most people seem to have sympathy for the Saxon cause. But remember the Saxons invaded Britain from northern Europe in the 5th and sixth centuries AD driving the the ancient Britons, Celts and romo Britons to the lands to the west, Wales and Cornwall. Of course 200 years later the Normans would finally extinguish Saxon rule in the fair isles.

I'm impressed with your latest dioramas Gary. The Viking, Saxon, and Roman scenes are very good. All of these are of interest to me and your collection and placement of figures are first class. Regards Greg.
