Gary's collection (4 Viewers)

Plenty of new additions there Gary.

I chose the same shield designs as you. Particularly like the intricate Celtic designs.

Your photo of those two guys apart from the weapons, look very much like drunks at a party dancing to Hi Ho Silver lining in the seventies ! ^&grin

Steve

Steve you are so right it does. Quite funny.

Go well my friend.

Gary

I know it's an old favourite with many collectors but a magazine article on the Anglo/Zulu war made me get some of the collection out for a photoshoot yesterday. A storm coming in over the weekend has halted proceedings but I thought I would share some of these old figures with you. I really enjoyed getting some of the little guys out of the boxes again after many years in the dark. Looking forward to next weekend and a chance to get more out to complete the photoshoot.

I gave up adding to the collection several years ago needing the space and money to collect other eras of history. Nice to look back though on what is always good 'eye candy' for collectors!

Gary.

Good to see your Zulu have escaped their confines and roaming the grasslands in search of a fight. Still a great series. Robin.

The 24th always add a good dash of colour to the dramatic scenes !
Nice too, to see older figures get some air, mine are pretty far back to reach often and great to be reminded of them.

Steve

After a long wait I have got around to extending my Vietnam collection. Probably time for a bit of K&C. But so much else to collect from other eras. Collectors Showcase stuff is quite good and well priced,

Same for Agincourt collection. Added a few more First Legion archers to the ranks. More likely to add to this range that Vietnam I suspect. Might try some Collectors Showcase figures. Obviously not of the same quality but would help bulk out the battlefield a little.

Gary

Your photos really show off those CSS Vietnam figures, just so annoying that they aren't the same scale as the K&C figures.

Your Archers look great too, though I'm not into Medieval, as like Napoleonic and Roman ranges you need mass figures for battle of which your doing a grand job ! :salute::

Steve

Some JJDs stuff flew in this week. More on the the way next week. Reaally like John's output at the moment.

Had a pleasant chat and picked up some of the Boxer Rebellion figures Regal are doing for me on Saturday morning. Love the fact I live in small town NZ during the weekends and can pick up hand crafted commissioned toy soldiers. I am truly blessed!

Good afternoon (well in NZ it is). Just starting on a set of photographs for an article on the Greek/Persian wars. First up the Persians and maybe the Greeks next weekend. I thought I would share a few shots.

Wow Gary this last photo with the Elephant and appropriate backdrop photo really makes for a stand out display ! :salute::

Ok so I said last time this weekend was the turn of the Greeks. And so it came to pass! I will pen the magazine article and add i some Spartan and Macedonian shots for good measure over the holidays.

Looking back on 2018 it's been a cracker jack year for me toy soldier wise. Highlights have been John Jenkins Aztec/Conquistador range together with Roman republican army and Gauls. Thomas Gunn Imperial Roman army (elephants included) and ancient Greeks/Persians together with a few planes including the enormous Sunderland seaplane. First Legion Polish Winged Hussars, mounted Saracens and the Persian elephant. Visiting the guards museum toy soldier shop in London and getting GNM French Napoleonic camel corps figures. Very little WB this year apart from a 1882 Egyptian gun and crew. Virtually no K&C apart from a few WW2 US marines. Locally Regal are churning out the sets from their boxer rebellion range for me.

As for turning my thoughts to 2019. I will certainly cut back on my purchases as other things in life must take priority and the toy soldier fund is not a bottomless pit. I have a Thomas Gunn Wellington bomber on order and will add ancients and a few other items as they are released. I will try to keep up with JJD Aztec/Conquistador and Roman republic releases with some Saratoga and War of the Roses figures for good measure. I have on order the new FL winter teutonic knights and would like to pursue this range as it expands. Regal are painting up a six ox gun team from the Chinese imperial army of 1900. Sadly that leaves little spare money for K&C figures (and they do some lovely stuff) or WB who I am less impressed with. Then of course there are bound to be other ranges that crop up during the year. I have for too long coveted the AroArt Roman camel corps figure. Before it is gone for good I really should make this my first new purchase of 2019.

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments, likes and for bothering to view this thread, it makes me smile!

Have a happy, restful holidays.

Gary

I find it very dangerous to say what I may do or not do in the future in this hobby. A movie and and a new series can totally change my direction of collecting. One thing is for sure, I must reduce my spending as this hobby is continuing to sap my income like yours Gary. They say you cannot take it with you, but the way it's going, there is no danger of that.^&grin, Robin.
