I recently got the new/retooled BF-109 (ACE-205 version) and I must say John did a great job with it! The paint job is excellent with the RLM colors being accurate for the early war period. The weathering is not too over the top. The opening engine is a fantastic feature and really adds to the versatility of display options with this model. My only real complaint is that the canopy hinge is too large and obtrusive. There are other prebuilt BF-109 models from Corgi and 21st Century Toys in similar scales where the canopy hinges were better concealed... That said, it is still a nice model and a significantly better effort than John’s recent P-51. I may have to get the other BF-109!

Anyways, I’ve got mine currently displayed in a little vignette with some older Thomas Gunn Luftwaffe ground crew and John’s Josef Priller pilot set (I know Priller didn’t fly with JG53, but the figures still work!)

Enjoy 😃

Could you elaborate why you think it’s better than the P-51? Thanks a lot!

I agree with Tristan that the 109 is a better scale model than the P-51. For example, the surface detail on the former appears better rendered. That said, IMO, Jenkins' P-51 and these new Messerschmitt are the best of type in 1/30. Really hoping that additional livery choices will be offered in both instances. -Moe

What about the Corsairs? I love mine. Just as beautiful as the 109 I just opened, which is saying a lot. OMG it’s gorgeous.

Looking good Tman; always enjoy your dios. That open engine feature is a nice one. Although you mention the hinge on the canopy, it still looks great.

Very nice set up and great looking model. I hope for other versions. With space being such a big issue for me, I'm somewhat picky on the schemes.

These are very nice!
Here is the other paint scheme.

Thanks for posting those pics, Medic! The other BF-109 looks great as well. I may need to get another and make a larger airfield setup... Overall, I’m quite happy with how John’s retooled BF-109s have turned out. He’s got the colors and historically-accurate markings correct; the mottled camouflage is done right, and they just look good. He really needs to make some pilots and ground crew now 😉

I, unfortunately, am thinking the same thing, but really shouldn’t spend the money. 🙁
