Germany ends World War One reparations after 92 years (1 Viewer)

Just a guess but does the county's name begin with "F" and end with "e"? :D

The funds will go to Belgium and France.

And then it is time to address the bonds issued during the Weimarer Republic which recently were purchased by American investors ...

Might take me this long to pay off my recent Figarti/TGM purchases...................

Very interesting.

I remember it was only a couple of years ago that the British finally paid of their debt to USA for WWII. Frank Millward, another forum member, had mentioned it to me during a conversion and then a short while later it was confirmed in the newspapers. I was very surprised would still be paying it off. I guess it was a considerable amount of money and Britain would have found it hard to pay in the years just after the war.

That special relationship just keeps on costing. Financially we were on our knees after WWII but, for all the bases used in the cold war etc it should have been written off???

If you read certain accounts (Masters and Commanders comes to mind), the US extracted a very hard bargain from Britain during WW II, particularly for destroyers that were, in many respects, not shipshape when received.

Brett....

See it can be done. I agree with the post many of the boats given were better after a torpedo but, we came out well with them. I still think repaying debts to allies now should have been dropped on all sides kind of leaves a bad taste IMO.
