"Gin Gin I Love You" (3 Viewers)

I'm certainly glad I revisited the Anglo-Zulu War era. Years ago I had a rather large collection of WB Rorkes Drift figure sets and buildings. Alas, I sold it all off to new homes. Oh well, that was then and this is now. The important thing is that I'm really enjoying 'getting back on the saddle".
Mike
Mike, I have also regreted selling some sets over the years, great to see you have the opportunity to revisit the same conflict, those Zulu poses are amazing

The Zulu sculpts are amazing Matt. Photos don't do them justice. I wouldn't say I have strong regrets over selling sets. I look at it as one way of supporting my hobby and allowing me to enjoy it. After decades of collecting, I've run out of display space. In order to collect a new interest and be able to display it, something old has to go. I've been selling off my WB WWI, JJD Great War, Knights of the Skies, and Wheels Across the Desert, sets in order to collect and be able to display more recent interests such as the JJD Anglo-Zulu War as well as K&C Discovering Tutankhamun, Battle of the Bulge, Vietnam, Cattle Drive, and TGM Professor Jones. Out with the old, in with the new.

You are quite good at those shelf displays aren't you Mike. I have all the JJD figures so far released and like Robin have most of WB range (matte and gloss) plus Thomas Gunn (their new figures are really good) and Heritage and Conte.

I did an article for Toy Soldier Collector magazine some time ago (might have been issue 100). But I cannot display all of it and feel the need to let most of it go at some stage once the collection is united😪

But you have sown the seeds of retaining a little of that redcoated and ebony eye candy.

Well done Mike another winner on the way.

Thank you very much Gary. Your comments and observations are much appreciated. I just don't have the space anymore to be a "completest" and am now limited to dwindling shelf space on shelves that are either 24 or 35 inches long. I'm learning to do the best I can with what I've got to work with. So, instead of a "completest" I've become a "cherry picker" concentrating on small displays and vignettes.

I need to follow your example! I started collecting in January 2002 and have never sold anything. I have approaching 15,000 figures plus vehicles, scenics etc. It's the boxes that take up the space.

A large shipping container is full in NZ and two large storage units just about full in the UK. I have just emptied the atic this afternoon of toy soldiers to try to squeeze them into storage but it's filled up my lounge, with some items I forgot I had.

My wife is away and on her return she is not going to be impressed.

I have the March JJD figures arriving tomorrow, and another 35 or so additions. I think I need therapy 🤔

It's a great habit, er I mean hobby, to be addicted to. I know exactly what you mean. I rent a self storage unit just to keep large containers that have empty soldier set boxes in them. Boxes full of empty boxes. And you think you need therapy 🤣😂

Around 5 years ago I came to decision, that if I could not display it, I could not keep it. I have let go half my collection in the last year in anticipation of my new man cave, which is half the size of my previous one. Finally a few days ago we are in the new house and although my collection is in a chaotic state, I am making headway in setting it back up. As I do not keep boxes, there is not an additional storage issue. The last thing I want is to be overwhelmed by the amount, so in the next month I will know whether I need to do another cull, hopefully not. This hobby is a big part of my life. Robin.

I totally concur with you Robin. If I can't display it to enjoy it's time to find a new home for it. Also, at 77 years old, this hobby is a very big part of my daily life enjoyment.

Another Anglo-Zulu War delivery today in the middle of a blizzard that has buried us in 12 to 33 inches of snow depending where you live in Wisconsin. My compliments to our local Post Office and staff.

GGZ-02 Impi Zulu of the uThulwana Regiment, GGZ-04 & GGZ-07 4 Zulu Warriors of the uThulwana Regiment, and GG-106 OX Wagon with Mealie Bags (which by the way is excellently done).

Must be tough to part with the little men. They have been a big and constant part of my life too. Over the past 24 years they have been a rock steering me through bringing up kids divorce, new relationships and a new wife, job changes, living in four different countries, the death of loved ones and the inevitable ups and downs of life.

The problem I have is since 2010 (when I divorced and lost my man cave) I have never been able to display more than a very few figures.

Getting a small % of the collection down from the attic was a real tonic this evening, with my wife away. I opened a small selection of K&C, First Legion and JJD figures.

What a joy for an hour or so.

Roll on retirement and that man cave.

Interesting thread on the trials and tribulations of this hobby. Men, have you noticed the Zulu numbers are starting to build up, we may need urgent reinforcements soon or be over run.🤔😀. Robin.

Reinforcements are coming. Waiting on the March and April releases at this point. The increasing numbers of Zulus is why the defenses were bolstered by the OX Wagon. Was hesitant to get the wagon, and for that matter which variant. Glad I collected this one. Fits in really well with the WB Mealie Bag Wall sections.

- Well hats off to the USPS for getting this very important package delivered to you, no matter what the weather was dishing out. That must have been your postman I saw hanging on to the back of a snowplow and gripping a big brown box.
