Glossies painted by Beating Retreat (2 Viewers)

After being stuck in customs for more than a month, they finally attempted to deliver the third and final box yesterday . . . and of course no one was home!:rolleyes2: I will go to the post office and pick it up tomorrow, and hopefully take and post some photos of the completed diorama.:smile2:

John just offered to do another wonderful air war related project that I can use with this diorama for me, and I immediately accepted. I will post more information once John gets going on it.^&cool

Man oh Man, Louis, I bet you are relieved that the final box is still there and didn't get lost.
2 or 3 years ago, I expected a small delivery from John, think it was just two figures, and it took about 3 months until they showed up.
Usually most of the deliveries from the U.K. came in within 5 or 6 business days.
Never know what happens once a package takes off into the postal orbit ^&grin

Now I am looking forward to see some more photos once you have picked up your package and arranged the diorama :smile2:

Happy Collecting!

I was very worried, Konrad!{eek3} I picked up the package today, and the contents were, thankfully, completely safe and undamaged, so I am much relieved. John proposed another, smaller but still significant project which will work with this one, and I told him yes immediately.:smile2: I await confirmation that its a go, and once he has agreed to do it, I will tell you all about it.:wink2:

Okay, finally have the RAF Airfield Diorama installed in the Aerodrome Room, so here we go (I apologize in advance for the poor photography):

Louis, it all looks fantastic. Hard to pick my favorite grouping from all that is happening. The group at the chow wagon and the Hurricane is great, but I think the lounging pilots win. Just so iconic as they recline in the lawn chairs and play with the dog. The ready shack is remarkable in it's detail. Wonderful work and a beautiful dio. -- Al

Here is the description John e-mailed me of our next project:

"The ATS Memphis belle set, just in case you have not seen it, consists of the Memphis belle crew ( 10 figures ) all riding on a jeep on there way to their aircraft. I wondered if you would like me to paint you the set in superior gloss, I thought it would fit brilliantly with your uncle Joe figure."

I of course said yes, so will be adding to the wonderful RAF Diorama.:wink2:

Hi Louis

Looking good, just so glad it all arrived safe and sound. The ambulance is a great touch.

Regards John

Thank you again for all of your remarkable work, John!:smile2: The ambulance is the only CJB Model in RAF markings in my collection. It is so well made that I felt it went perfectly with your work.:wink2:

I am looking forward to adding the Jeep with the bomber crew to join my Uncle on the diorama (right by you and Thor).^&cool

Thanks, Al!:smile2: Can't wait until the Memphis Belle crew in the jeep joins the diorama, but I have to be patient, John is very busy!:wink2:

A truly wonderful piece of work, your Airfield Diorama, Louis.
Always a pleasure to view John's work, small or large, and to find the fine details he puts in his displays.
And, without a doubt, the Jeep with the Bomber Crew will make a tremendous addition to an already outstanding scene.
Congratulations again :salute::
Konrad

we MIGHT have a medieval banquet painted by John to see soon!!!!
I can't wait - I was excited about it, but after seeing Louis' dio, I am even more excited!

I've not posted for a while on this thread so here's one I made earlier

I think John needs a title....

How about the all powerful master of the gloss!!!!

excellent pieces, as always!

I just went back through this thread again (maybe the 10th time). I just have to say, this is the best face on any toy soldier I have seen!

Hi Zach

Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated. The figure with the face is in my own collection along with a drummer and the Duke of Marlborough they are posing in front of a John Gittins, Royal Oak tavern waiting for about 10 more figures to join them. A project that has been waiting a couple of years for completion when I eventually get around to it, not enough hours in the day. You might see it on the forum someday. Bye the way the figure is a Rose miniatures casting from John Eden studios. Have you seen www.beatingretreat.com

Kindest regards John
