Gordon Cairns Neilson, (1952-2020) (3 Viewers)

Andy, my deepest condolences to you. I never had the privilege of meeting Gordon, but have heard many great things. I’ve always enjoyed hearing the stories and seeing his work!
He will live on through his great contribution to this hobby and in the hearts of all lucky enough to have known him. I hope that soon, the great memories will help replace some of the sadness.

Dear Andy,

I am very sad about this news. I had the privilege of meeting Gordon when I was in Chicago, who in addition to being a very talented artist, was a very kind and friendly figure. I can only imagine the pain of this loss for you and everyone there at K&C. I ask God to allay this pain and give strength to you and all your family and friends. For me and everyone who knew him in the collectors universe, the memory of him and his fantastic and unique art works and dioramas will remain forever alive.

Andy...

my condolences to you on your brother Gordon...
he was a staple of K&C's quality and commitment to this hobby...
he made such beautiful and artistic dioramas...
he was a master scene builder...
I regret never meeting him...
as I would have asked him 100's of questions on how he did this display...
and listened intently as he explained his detail...
I have enjoyed his dioramas and will miss them in the future...
my condolences...

Andy,
Sorry to hear of the loss of your brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. God will walk with you and strengthen you during your period of mourning and beyond. Your brother is in a place of love and peace and will always be by your side. In Jesus’s name.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gordon's passing, a true gentleman and artisan that made a lasting contribution to our hobby.

My condolences Andy. I never knew or met Gordon but saw him once in Brisbane speaking about making dioramas. He was a great ambassador for the hobby with his creative talent and he will be sadly missed. Regards Greg.

Indeed very sad news, but lovely to know you had such a close relationship especially brought about by your mutual love of toy soldiers. Keep strong Andy, thinking of you. Robin.

Andy,

My regretes to you and your family.

To all K&C Collectors & Friends,

Earlier this evening, my brother and friend Gordon passed away after a four month stay in hospital here in Hong Kong...Over the years he fought many a battle against ill health and medical misfortunes and triumphed o’er every one ...except this last one which he endured with great patience and bravery.

Throughout these years his spirits never wavered and his gentle nature and good humour carried him over and beyond his personal trials and tribulations.

One of the joys of his life was his love of toy soldiers and his model-making...especially dioramas.
His contribution to the hobby could often be seen and enjoyed at major shows in Chicago...Los Angeles...London...and San Antonio.

Many fine collections all over the world, large and small, have examples of Gordon’s superb and unique artistry and handiwork. I am proud to have some myself.

Gordon was an integral part of King & Country since its earliest days. It was Gordon who got me back into collecting toy soldiers when, in 1980, he sent me a small set of a Royal Marines Colour Party made by Blenheim in the UK for my Christmas that year. These were the first toy soldiers I had seen since I last collected them in the mid 1960’s...and I was hooked!

Within a few short years I became an ‘addict’ with a serious ‘habit’ which eventually led, in 1983, to the founding of K&C...Gordon started the ball rolling and it’s never stopped rolling since. In 1984 Laura and myself brought him out to Hong Kong to join us and work with the company.

Gordon’s contribution to the company and his friendship and loyalty were second-to-none and can never be replaced or duplicated...He was a ‘One-Off’ pure and simple...and a kind, quiet and gentle soul into the bargain.

He was also my younger brother and friend and I will miss him greatly,
Andy C. Neilson.

Andy,
So sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed his company and our conversations about our mutual love of dioramas. He was most certainly an inspiration to me and I feel fortunate enough to have had a brief glimpse into his talents...He will be missed!
Thoughts and Prayers are with you and your family.

My deepest condolences for your loss. I never met Gordon but marveled at his work from afar. The dioramas he created were stunning.

I am sure the thoughts and best wishes from those involved in the hobby will be numerous and heartfelt.

Andy,

This is new well-suited to a dark, soggy, winter's day in Texas.

Sorry for your loss, and that so many of us never got to know your brother Gordon.

Hi Andy,

I never knew Gordon but from all that I heard, sounds like he was a wonderful man. I truly enjoyed all of his amazing work. My prayers to you, your family, and friends.

I also lost someone today, my Sister's husband who was battling an aggressive brain tumor. It's hard to imagine that one day we can talk and laugh with someone, and the next, they are gone in what I believe a better place.

My sincere condolences. May Gordon rest in peace.

Very sorry for your loss- my condolences to you and your family - his work was brilliant and will certainly be missed - I am certainly saddened for your loss - RIP Gordon - Larry

This is very sad news, my condolences goes out to you and his and your family members. I was lucky enough to meet Gordon in Brisbane many moons ago during your annual Oz K&C visit. I enjoyed chatting with him and I found him to be a very friendly bloke and happy to provide tips on his vast knowledge of diorama making. I have admired his dioramas and seen many up close during your visits to Oz, two Chicago Shows and in private collections. He inspired me to incorporate some of his dio features into my dioramas. Everyone in our small toy soldier community will miss him and he is a great loss to the diorama world. RIP Gordon.
