Excellent Michael, they sure look good defending your building:cool:

Cheers

Martyn:)

Yep, that sure is a very nice building you have made there Michael:)
And it really makes John's Gordon's look their best!

Mike

A perfect fit between building and figures. These are among the best of your photos ever. Very realistic setups. We can't wait to see you building a British square of several hundred soldiers. We are all glad you decided to follow us into the Sudan. For the next couple of years we are all on are own Gordon Relief Expedition!

Randy

P.S. You have done a great job translating Paul Darnells's 28mm dioramas into 60 mm. I am so glad that I did that thread Mike Miller in 28mm--I knew you would successfully run with it and you have. Can't wait to see your "Battle of the Mosque"

Martyn, Mark, Niels, Jeff, Randy, Robin, Titus...thanks for the compliments on the structures...

they are really pretty easy to make and I'm sure I'm saving quite a few bucks besides getting some decent structures here too...

Randy...special thanks for the motivation...I too am glad you started that thread...

honestly...my "ghetto" mosque...looks pretty much just like these buildings...not much difference...

here are a couple more buildings I did...

pretty simple structures...

I worked the stones over again...I'm glad I did...the "grey" did not work for the color of the stones...you were 100% right...sometimes you see something wrong...but don't know what it is...sometimes you need someone to tell you...I think the brown looks a lot better...I am still going to do a beige wash over them tonight...;ighten them up a little bit...

I'm gonna attempt some more stone work...I'm sure I can improve...Modwalls told me it takes practice...

anyway...here are some pics of the 2nd and 3rd buildings I made...

Too clever Mike, you have the ability to make endless structures that make and compliment your Sudan figures. Half your luck. Robin.

Michael, what can I say !! These are fabulous. I enjoy every bit of your work....photos, stories, step by step. Great stuff my friend looking forward to the next round.

It's nice seeing the well deserved compliments for what your doing in creating your small village an featuring your current JJ defenders. Excellent job on not only the buildings but the staging for your photo shoot and the results of some of your finest photos to date. Can't remember when you've ever taken a poor one. Thanks for bringing us along on the voyage an looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for us Michael.....Papa Z

Thank you Robin, Scott and Papa...

okay...this is my "ghetto" mosque...

it's really kind of anti climatic as it looks pretty much just like every other building I have made...hahahaha...it really does...:D...anyway...

I did put some of the Hirst Art bricks into the foam...and plastered around them...I thought that was a nice touch...a little fancier than the other buildings...

I beat those little stones with a hammer to give them some distress and weathering...

I'm kind of proud of the doorway too...the stucco made a good blend from the stone to the wall...it looks pretty real...

for the door handle...I got a good tip from Fraxinus...a double sided tack...I had to paint it black...

I used some more arched Hirst Arts bricks for joists over the windows instead of wooden beams like on the other structures...

the door is a tad fancier...

but the piece de resistance...
the coup de gras...
the magnum opus...
hahahaha...

was over the doorway...

I wanted to write in Arabic..."God is Great"...

I looked it up on a free translation website...

I took my wood carving kit...but couldn't do it...it was too difficult to write in the wood...I don't possess the talent for such a delicate job...

so...

I looked up the Arabic translation of "Starbucks"...

the coffee shop...

it looked easier so I tried it insted...

sooooooooo...

the sign over the door says "Starbucks"...

I figured there was one on every corner...
and since it wouldn't translate "McDonalds"...
I used it instead...

Michael, your scratch building talents never fails to amaze me. All three of your buildings are very impressive by themselves, but when placed together with your JJD Gordons everything comes to life. Great photos and great scene set-ups. Now after seeing all your Gordons I feel like I must go and have a wee dram of single malt whiskey ;)
:) Mike

Michael, have you tried using a fine sharpie maker?

ty Mike...I'll join you in a couple of Dewar's Red on the rocks...

Scott...good idea...I think I can stencil and transfer it over pretty neatly...my existing sign is pretty ugly...

Great Scene! How the JJD sudan compare size wise wih the Britains sudan British soldier. JJD are closer to 60mm correct?

Very nice work, Michael. Outstanding, envy your abilities.

How are you treating/staining the wood popiscle stick? What color stain?
