got a new desert mat today from Build-A-Rama...
48"s x 14"s...really like it...and a perfect fit for my bottom shelf cabinet display...

Mark did the groundwork so I could place the JJD temple in the back...
with no flocks of grass under it...
so it sits smooth and flush on the mat...

he also suggested leaving an unflocked path in front of the temple entrance...
which I'm glad I listened to him on that idea...

good product that really enhances my JJD Aztec collection...

Wonderful collection and display Mike!
That mat ties it altogether very well, and its light tone really brings out the colors in the figures.
Nice shots, thanks!

Looks great Mike :salute:: I've started on a Vietnam table top display (my first), do you have any suggestions for a grass type mat, the table is around 5' x 3' in ye olde measurement system.

Matt...

that's pretty big...
what type of groundwork are you looking for on your Vietnam grass dio?
long grass...short grass...dirt...jungle foliage...

here's some links to BAR's styles...

I'm using my old dining table. The plan is to recreate the Battle of Long Tan, at one end I'll have the Rubber Tree plantation where the battle took place. Model Rubber trees are scarce so I intend to substitute Palm trees there. Figures will be K & C Aussies and Vietnam regs plus the Aussie M113 APC, I only have the one set as apparently some guy in Melbourne has most of the others that were made ^&grin.

The other end of the table will represent the Aussie Base at Nui Dat where I'll have a large Command Tent, the TCS Huey, K & C 105 mm Artillery set with the K & C Centurion Tank and new K & C Landrovers (which I'll need to buy).

I guess my Best mat option would be a shorter grass mat on which I could place other vegetation, tracks etc. Sadly the table isn't big enough for Water Buffalos etc, well maybe it is, what would I know, it's my first table display.

Make your own Mat, Matt it's fun and then you can make it to your specs.

Hi Wayne, thank you for the suggestion and after checking the prices for regular sized mats on the links Mike supplied I'd guess that a custom mat the size I need would be rather pricey.

Have you made your own mat? What do you start with?

Looks excellent, one of favourite ranges from JJD, still need 3 more sets to complete the range, i like the colours of the figure's clothing and the headdress. Pity it looks like there will very few released in the near future, but the newish Trojan range has got me in it's spell and the latest Gauls, mounted, will be riding their way into my collect.

Great set up you have.

Another great set up Mike.
i too would be interested in building my own Large scale matt

That is a great idea but what would you use for a base material? It would have to be flexible enough to roll up but durable enough not to crack or delaminate. Any suggestions?

Howard
