Anybody besides myself get chills up and down their spine when they hear music that goes perfectly with a particular scene. I was watching some of my older movies and ran across "Excalibur" staring Nigel Terry, Nicholas Clay, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart. The scene where Arthur and his knights are mounted on horseback riding off to fight Mordred is moving. The scene is set up perfect! Riding through an orchard with blossoms flying through the air all around them in their shimmering armor with the sound of "O Fortuna" in the back ground. One of those movie moments that will always stick in my head.

One of the first movies that I watched where I payed attention to the soundtrack was Zulu. I still find the music stirring.

Bohemian Rhapsody

"Waynes" world...............................:D

From a war movie perspective, I think of the Great Escape, A Bridge Too Far, River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia.

All of the above plus the music from Bridge At Remagen. I did just break down a bawl like a baby at "When You Believe" from the Prince of Egypt in the context of the story. The music and the action really builds. (My daughter was watching it.) The choral music at the Fort Wagner scene in Glory had the same effect and I was in the dang theatre!

"We Were Soldiers" when "Sgt. McKenzie" begins to play and they all charge down the hill....

"Last of the Mohicans" is hard to beat for theme music. And by coincidence I watched "Bridge at Remagen" today, an often over looked war movie imo with decent accuracy, the "war is a bad thing" is there, but not too in your face like some movies.

I don't mind the "War is bad" message if the main theme is, this is how humans survived or behaved bravely or decently. (and the action and authenticity is there as well)

Major Dundee has some good music and the "Mitch Miller and his Sing Along Gang" main theme is fun. The main theme in The Horse Soldiers is fun as well. Neither are period pieces.

Conan the Barbarian great music gets my blood pumping :D.

Did you know that the Mitch Miller theme for "Major Dundee" and the music that goes with it were not the original choice of the director? Apparently there was a big blow up between the director and the studio over the music. The studio had the picture re-scored to fit their idea of what would sell. On the DVD you can play the movie with either score.

Personally, I love movie music. I have spent a lot more of soundtrack records, CDs and such than all my other music together. When other kids were buying Beatles albums, I was buying the "Battle of the Bulge" soundtrack record. Totally nerdy, but it works for me.

I have that DVD and I prefer the "other" over the theatrical release score. But some bits are "fun", the tinny "French Army" theme.

Yeah me too but "chicks" didn't dig it although one girl friend liked the Patton theme music and the Panzerlied from Battle of the Bulge. (Strange girl)

I saw two choices that always pushed my buttons...

Last of the Mohicans and Conan the Barbarian...

their musical scores are perfect selections for the movies...

Yea but could you dance to it!

Last of the Mohicans is another one of those soundtracks that is very good. At 1st I couldn't remember what track went with what scene so I went back and watched the movie. Its been such a long time since I seen it that I forgot how good the tracks actually are. They seem to fit in perfect.

Regarding Bridge on the River Kwai music an Aussie soldier who had served in Iraq mentioned it today.
A few years ago a Japanese Engineer unit was deployed to Iraq. Their first overseas deployment since you know when. Aussie infantrymen were assigned to provide protection as they did the engineerring stuff. One one occasion they were building a bridge guarded by Aussies. Guess what the Aussies were whistling ? Luckily it fell on deaf ears or none of the Japanese soldiers had seen the movie. Pity nobody videoed it becuase I can image it being a great Youtube hit !!

I like the song that it sounds like German school children are singing at the begining of "Cross of Iron". "The Last of the Mohigans" is great as mentioned, and the themes from "Seven Samuari" and "Alexander Nevski" are also. The theme from "Patton" and the "Ride of the Valkeries" sequence in "Apocalypse Now" are great.
