gunboats (2 Viewers)

Royal Marines-Light Infantry contingent aboard the "Lion".

"The Lion" is one of the best Trophy creations ...it's on the top of my "need to find" list... missed it a couple years ago ... :(

I have never seen it on e bay. I have seen the Victoria on e bay as well as the Dhow and gunboat. I have seen the Leopard at the London show ( well photos of it) I also know Larry has one. But I only know of one HMS Lion and that is in Tommy's collection. It would be cool on your website if we could encourage collectors to post what they have and then make some sort of geographic map of where each of these boats is. We may get some surprises.
Tommy's collection should be listed in all tourist guides to the US and State of Texas. Anna posted some pics of his Durbar collection on her latest e mail and it is as spectacular as his Trophy collection.

Thanks for the kind words Damian. Mike Laeding and I went to the 2002 Chicago show with the "Leopard" and the "Lion" and brought them back with no offers. I have never seen another "Lion" for sale either. I thought I would post photos of its fine detailing for other Trophy collectors to see.

That is the reason why Steve Jobs is developing a time machine. In 1997 shortly after getting married I was offered a first edition copy of Norris Newmans "With the British in Zululand" At the time the price asked was 400 USD. Like a complete idiot I said no. A similar copy today is about 3000 USD.

I'll take the Leopard off your hands Tommy. No questions asked ^&grin:wink2:

Damian,
We all made this kinda mistakes..but with all respect I can not see that some Trophy pieces (even the best) are breaking $3,000 barrier :smile2: I have be offered a "Leopard" and an "Eagle" many times at their original price (the same like "Lion's") and passed... the people who offered me these pieces still have them I believe, ^&grin

I paid $1,200 and $1,500 for the Victoria and Eagle when I bought them from the Toy Soldier Gallery back in 1997.

So iguess 2800 was MSRP. Must have been a lot of profit in there if dealers were selling it for half off.

Brad, I guess, you assume that the dealers got them from Len for FREE^&grin
I was told that for most dealers "the cut" was 30% of MSRP, so they would have to operate in this range before going "in red"...
The secondary market is quite different, I am not quite sure that there are a lot of ACW and Crimea Trophy collectors prepared to pay these kinda prices... As you know I do not collect ACW and Crimea: I just want the boats :).. so I keep a couple extra "Victoria"s handy for a possible trade ^&grin

Alex,

I'm not sure there are a lot of collectors of any kind to pay around $3,000. I suppose I would if I had the dough, though.

I agree with you... I do a lot of leg work and it lets me buy what I need for the prices I want to pay and I can afford. "Cause I know better, the thrill is in the chase". :)
