gunboats (1 Viewer)

In my opinion, often attempted but never equaled!

I only owned the Victoria and the Eagle, but I certainly agree that these wonderful boats were among the best things ever made in this Hobby. ^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool I rate them works of art on a par with the finest K&C wood warbirds, Figarti "shock and awe" pieces, and the biggest and best Heco Tinplate Models, like the V2 Rocket Base, WWI German Gunboat and Junkers JU52. I still have the Eagle (I traded the Victoria to my good friend Hans Hedrich, a huge Trophy collector), and it will never leave my collection.

That being said, check out the "Sand Pebbles" gunboat specially made by Chris Munro for K&C collectors, which is, in my opinion, every bit as good.:wink2:

Lovely Tommy
I have to agree with your assessment.
Seems the Victoria was the most popular of Len's boats.

Hi Tommy and Damian

I’m afraid I am going to have to disagree with you {eek3} :tongue: ^&grin

The Nile Paddle Steamer produced by Patrick Adams of the British Toy Soldier Company, in my humble opinion, is a superb model and on a par with the Trophy “Victoria”. Although I don’t own a “Victoria” I have seen both at first hand.

I think I need one of those as well. ^&grin

Hi Martyn: I remember when you posted some photos of the steamer by the British Toy Soldier Company. Len and I talked about how much it looked like the Victoria which he said was designed by Mike John in September of 1986. The newer steamer looks more warlike with the metal plates and deck gun emplacement. If I didn't have mine, I would buy one.

I knew you liked it Tommy, I had an extra set of 8 metal plates made and received them just after Christmas, now the steamer has all round protection :wink2:

Martyn,
The middle photo, with the steamer outfitted for battle, is exquisite. Very nice piece!

Guess that will make the ship heavier and tougher to walk out with :(:tongue: Still, a great looking ship. ^&cool

Many thanks Larry, being a bit wider and heavier than the Trophy version I had to hire a van to get the steamer home, the van also allowed me to bring the 30+ boxes of Trophy sets home safely ^&grin:tongue:

The boat is able to resist attacks from both banks of the Nile now :tongue::wink2:^&grin

To be more precise, the "Victoria" was a Nile paddle steamer and not a gunboat, commandered from Thomas Cook's travel company by Lord Kitchener for the transportation of troops and supplies. The 18 seated British troops plus 2 privates carrying buckets of tea and the Colour Sergeant and Officer could be specially ordered from one of several regiments.

Martyn Tommy's been traveling the globe once again recently at Waterloo now on the Nile an boy I'm really enjoying his globe hopping an love the gun boats. Thanks Tommy.{bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

If I had a dhow, this would be a great diorama.

Tommy,
You seem to be a little down not having the dhow. Tell you what, in the interest of helping you get over your mild case of depression, I would be willing to take that diorama and take it upon myself the mental anguish of having to search for the dhow. Captain Ahab :tongue:^&grin

Lawrence: You are so swell to do that, especially since you have a dhow in your terrific collection. By the way, I came across an older catalogue that just had three figures and a gun instead of six or seven newer figures.

Hi Tommy

I’ve found this Trophy description of the Dhow in one of my old catalogues, along with two promo pictures

The Trophy Dhow was supplied with 4 figures, anyone who has a Trophy Dhow with more than four figures have a bonus ^&grin

Please note the original selling price {eek3}
