Gunga Din - who made this one?? (1 Viewer)

This is mine. Any guesses as to its origin?

I am going to guess that this is a casting, maybe Minimen or Valiant, one of those that was then painted. Also looks like a kit Ledger (Painted in Canada) does.

Louis: I bought mine with a Trophy water wagon with two oxen and a driver. I definitely think Len made such a figure. Tommy

Hi Tommy

Could it be this set you are thinking of, minus the 41st mutineer

Cheers

Martyn:)

Tantalizing clues, but still no definitive ID on Tom's piece. The mystery deepens!

Prost!

Do not be confused ; Gunga Dinh or Gloria Swanson ? :smile2:

I was told it was made by Ted Toy ???
I think you're right, John. If I remember correctly, it was a premium issued by "Toy Soldier & Model Figure" to subscribers who renewed, like they did with the figures of General Wolfe and Stonewall Jackson, or the figure of John McCrae.

Prost!

That's similar to my guy. But, not quite the same. I have to agree with Tom's original assessment that it screams of Trophy or Under Two Flags. Would really like to know for sure, though. Gungha-din.png

I can confirm this is Trophy after these years. I have ended up with several and a number of them had the TM mark albeit very small on a few I had to look under magnification! SO - confirmed as Trophy.

Bonus question ... If you look at my picture with the two Gunga-dins, which one would be the correct match to the mounted Lord Roberts?

Actually neither! The one with two feet on the ground came with an Indian Mutiny Ox Water Carrier set and the one with the foot on the rock was an early personality single figure.

Well, that's a fine how-do-ya-do. There's no others in this collection. Which leads me to another question. Is that an official Trophy box? Or is that possibly something London Bridge may have slapped a sticker on and sold as a set because they didn't have the rest of the actual set? I guess a logical question would be - Where does that Lord Roberts come from?
