Happy birthday Mein fuhrer!! (1 Viewer)

Guus, some very interesting comments here on a fascinating subject, it's these kind of discussions that make the forum very enjoyable. Having said that I must apologise to Mitch if I drifted the thread from his excellent pics, sorry about that.

Hey guys, remember that the Stauffenburg attempt was one of the later attempts on Hitler's life. There were something like 15 attempts, many of them pre-war. Too bad that one of them didn't succeed prior to the world being dragged into the abyss. Ahh, the 'what ifs' of history. -- Al

Think about Stauffenburg he made out as the good German and they even have a,sign up in Berlin for him but the only reason he wanted to kill Hitler was to save themself nothing to do with mass killing of the Jews , and a lot of German soldiers saw them as traitor

Neil..

You make good points and, I always find it strange how in the good times they are happy taking the praise and medals etc that came with the victories but, then easily turn when things either go bad or, they don't like what is happening.

Many germans in the armed forces were like this not negating the strange decisions Hitler made in terms of policy and, in terms of fighting decisions. I think saving germany and the people were one of the reasons but, I would venture that there were other emotive and personal reasons why people did what they did.
