Has Conte Just Given Up??? (2 Viewers)

While I love the figures! I hate the delays! A classic love / hate relationship! But the delays give us time to think and dream and ask what else? So it really is a win win situation. I myself have only been waiting for about five years on the Zouaves and Highlander figures:D:D All good things to those who wait, Nest 'pa? Excuse my horrible french accent. ;)

Is it so much cheaper in China to produce and paint figures? There is no place else on earth that can do this. Not the U.S.?,or Canada,Mexico,Europe,South America,India,Africa,Australia,N.Z.,Indonesia.S.E.Asia?No where else?

I agree . I'm trying to get it done here in the USA. Not much luck, I have to go with small limited runs of plastics I can produce myself.Thats another investment and learning experiance to take head on .It's troubling to me that making toys here in the USA is something so difficult and expensive.

As far as long awaited restocks, consider this.He has to get in line at the factory like anyone else making plastic toys ect.
Factories have minimums they will produce, period.
If you have to wait for your turn in line,Have minimum factory runs{ sometime 3,000 is a minimum} are you going to redo old sold out figs, or are you going to give the customer something NEW they have been wanting and wailing for?
Not trying to be an apoligist for Conte. You have gripes, okay. But there may be reasons besides indifferance or arrogance on his part as I have heard implied elsewhere.
I dont know, I've only spoken with the man twice at OTSN shows and not in the inner circle.

You can't please everyone, no matter how you try.Believe me.I have made exactly ONE set of plastics. Had a guy at OTSN gripe he wouldnt buy any because he didnt like the shade of green I chose.Oh well!

By the way, the Bronze and Silver Spartans are shipping from NC Monday!

Vick I can assume by your previous post that you are a young man. You have the time to wait for Conte to produce all he has promised.
I for one am getting long in the tooth and don,t have the years ahead of me to wait.

So, R.C. is in his 50's you don't him see him disappointed that he may not live to see everything that he dreamed of, but he has set a chain of events that will lead to magnificent advancements in the hobby. So what if I am young, Conte may not be in business in 10yrs.

Well I think most of us know that factories have minimums and producers have priorities Fubar but that doesn't preclude a producer from communicating his actual intentions and status to his customers. That is the major frustration as I see it. I do think 3000 is a bit high given how many 500 or less limited editions we are seeing lately. Whatever the number, communicate, communicate, communicate and much will be forgiven.;):)

FWIW, I am am getting a full superset of the Bronze and Silver and look forward to receiving them this week. Maybe I can avoid the breakage from arm swapping with these sets now that I have the technique down.;)

Okay, Be frustrated. I dont get it but thats just me.Theres enough things to be annoyed and frustrated about these days than worry about adding missing pieces to my barbie collection.
Tell you this though.I've been doing military miniatures in one mode or another for 40+ years and I wouldnt have bothered with 54mm if it wasnt for Contes warlord and DDay sets + all the other items from other makers over the last 6-8 years.I just try and look at it as my glass being half full, not half empty with a stogie in it.
Communicating with Conte? You're probably right. Getting the word direct from the horses mouth seldom happens .Maybe twice a year on their site will he post what he's got in the works.
Happy toy collecting

It is obvious I kid around and talk too much on the forum. So with that, I retreat to my cave and admire my Barbies. Only collect the heads though.
Another poor attempt at humor.

That would be like having a shrunken head collection eh?

I have been attending OTSN for ten years and there has been no buzz over any other product like I was fortunate enough to see the first year he attended the show, no disrespect intended to any other manufacturer.

He was set up in the same room I was the day of the show and the mob around his tables was off the charts. He created a huge stir at the show and the problem was he promised so much but had a tough time delivering, not entirely his fault but collectors started getting frustrated with the delays and him showing items at the show that did not see the light of day for month/years.

Correct me if I am wrong, but he has never completed the Alamo as near as I can tell, which really frustrated collectors who bought all the sets and waited for the rest.

Aside from the Petersburg playset, no other ACW sets have been produced, nor the long awaited Sands of Iwo Jima set. A Picketts Charge set was planned, never happened, a D-Day #8 was planned, never happened, etc etc.

I think he discovered rather quickly plastic figures and playsets are a tough way to make a buck, God Bless Nick at TSSD and Ron at Barszo for continually producing sets............

I wouldn't count Conte out Warrior in reference to future playsets.......The Lt.

Does anyone have any ideas or info about the Africna exploration/adventure line that is posted on the Conte website? It looks interesting

I think you are missing my point mate. The frustration is with the lack of delivery coupled with the lack of communication of any useful information on the availability of the product, not only by RC but anyone in the company. I don't get a rat's a** whether it is Barbie's or thumb tacks, if you are told to expect a product and it is something of use and interest for you, it is not unreasonable to be annoyed when that changes without explanation or any reliable update in the schedule. To the extent the product is fungible, as his is to a point, it will be replaced; to the extent it is not, as his is when you start a line he produces for which there is no ready substitute, you will be frustrated no matter now much of the glass you empty before it is half full.;):D I am a relative patient and forgiving bloke but I really dislike being taken for granted or treated like a mushroom; maybe that is just me.

That said, I will order what lines I like from him and likely continue to be both impressed and pleased and annoyed.;)

I believe it is Sir Alan Quartermines King Solomons Mines based off Patrick Swayzes Sir Alan!

Spitfire, I dont follow that closely but I dont remember being promised anything.
Seems to me there was a lot of TALK about many items Ideas ect. Actual promises and a timeline, well I don't know. I'll believe it and buy it when I see it.
My Stamford Bridge set from 4-5 years ago has titles for at least 3 other 1066 playsets that I havent seen yet { Mounted Normans I'm dying for } and who knows if we ever will.

Dont get me wrong, I complain about manufacturers as well. Italeri makes some great plastics.Sometimes I wonder what they were thinking regarding poses or subject matter.{ Why do Napoleonic Guard Mamelukes when there were appox 100 in the Guard total, and not a troop type were there were a dozen 600 man Regiments ?!}
But then they score a 10 with their latest release. So, I'm happy.

As far as the Alamo sets, I just use other wonderful pieces made by CTS,TSSD and Hobby Bunker. Again, just me, I aint waiting on anybody.
Whole thing doesnt fit anywhere but on the floor anyway and I'm too old to play on my hands and knees!
Maybe Conte has given up. Who knows.
I'm not picking at you either so dont be offended by my remarks.I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on.

That should make everyone happy.
