Relative to Warriors comment about Contes first appearance at OTSN. I was there.
The Pope could have walked into that hotel that day and no one would have noticed, they were all focused on Conte.
I went thru all the waiting and delayed products in the early years, still having faith in RC that everything will be forthcoming.
But I believe two things happened that really turned most people off.
The release of Alamo set after Alamo set all without the promised new Mexicans, I believe it was more than two years before the Mexicans arrived.
What did we get in those sets, reissued Marx Mexicans. The same figures (reissue) that Conte would bash other companies for using.
And the one that really turned peoples heads was his rant about the Hyatt Hotel and staff and the organizers of OTSN. I don,t recall the year, 03 or 04 I believe. Blameing just about everything including world hunger on them and that he would never return.
Well he did, almost in disquise a few years later.
One must look at the big picture when discussing Conte.
Let me put it this way, have you heard anyone complain or bash Nick at TSSD or Ron Barzso,I think not. Both have a solid track record and don't BS the customers.
I'm only posting the above comments as it irks me to read post that puts RC on some sort of pedastall. He is what he is.

First off I was not offended and certainly intend no offense. I also see no reason for you to do anything but say what is on your mind. There is nothing wrong with a difference of opinion. What I don't get is what you don't get.:confused:

I for one said nothing about promises but the Conte website has had many announcements that project product for some time frame that does not materialize. Even worse in my opinion is the production of a line, like the Spartans which sells out and then posting something like "restock date unknown". Why is it unknown? What must happen for it to become known? Is it canceled, a limited edition that has been sold out or what? These are not hard questions and other producers seem to manage these well enough. Hence one source of the frustration. Then of course there are the "...I am not certain when but it will be soon..." announcements, which should come with a definition of "soon" since it seems to be different than the common English understanding of the word.;)

I am not criticizing the man but simply noting his company's performance issues that are "frustrating" to the many fans of this company. I don't think I can say it any more plainly, better communication would certainly be appreciated but it does not seem to be in the cards.:( If it ever happens, I will be among the first to salute it.
 
I think the main problem people have with Conte is that most everybody loves his products whether they admit it or not and they get very frustrated waiting for his products because they want them so bad and he doesn't help matters any by not commucating with his customers.

I am still do not understand why some hate his guts. First off I love TSSD and Barzso, but they do not cover so many ranges and produce metal. So you can't yell at R.C. over metal since plastic and samething goes for plastic, and as I recall he even has answered why he has not been able to do as much plastic because of the cost and he even states that plastic creates the bills and metal makes the money, so if people by less metal, the less plastic will be available, and I agree he could send out more news letters but I don't know anyone else who can do a diorama like Joe Baker. So if anyone is blamed for the delay of plastic it is the consumer for not buying more metal, how can we blame him for not running his company into deep debt.

I don't know what thread you are reading Vick but it does not seem to be this one.;) No one said anything about hating him as I can see and there is nothing the consumer can do to help him communicate his intentions reliably.:)
 
No one especially me is putting anyone on a pedastal.Some here on this forum do that with other { shall not be named} makers as if the sun rises and sets upon them. Whatever floats yer boat. But I dont .
All the above mentioned GK, tssd, barzo, conte as well as others have had a Devil of a time in the last year dealing with Factories.
Delays, costs rising, more delays, ect.
I was told 6 month turnaround to make my 1812 plastics. More like 14 months, then they sent the vessal with my Stock to LONG BEACH CA {1100 miles south}
When I told them from the beginning, repeatedly, I wanted the cargo to come to POrtland OR, on the very waterfront and terminal I worked at for 25 years.
Nope, Long beach, 2 week delay on top of that + more rail charges.


If theres an Unknown restock date, it must be for a reason , like they really dont know! If they say next March, who knows, events overseas might make that impossible.March might sound a long way off and frustrate folks, then you might not see it until December and really be foaming at the mouth.

I'm new at toy making from scratch, do almost everything myself and I dont promise anything NEW until I do it. But I'm just a flea to Conte/KC 's Pitbull .
I'm not out to compete, I cant.Just like being creative and having something to do. The big frustration is NOT getting it done here, and having to be at the mercy of foreign factories.!+&%$*&@$**&^%)(&I^$^$#%$@
I'll keep bashing my head against the wall until I can do it HERE!
Brute force and clumsiness might yet prevail!

Got a great idea why don't we all start talking about the favorite figures or sets that we've added to our collections from Conte and providing photos of them. I'm sure points and counter points have bee hashed out enough and lets look forward to what's headed our way no matter how long it takes. Just finshed posting a favorite of mind and Fubar's who love to get his hand on one.....The Lt.

Sprtfrnd I am in no way talking about you, I understand frustation, they are out of the B.O.S.S. sets and I need them for a project by Mid Noveberish. And if any one sees them on ebay or somewhere else besides Minute Men, Hobby Bunker, and Sierra please contact me. That is why I will be making a call to the warehouse Monday for when they will get in!

LT, Plastics, ACW. Easy to convert, paint up great.Darkages right behind, fun to paint, detail is excellent.Spartans, a blast to switch parts, pose and paint.
Metals, geez, very difficult.If i could keep just one, it would be the
Behold the Power of Rome with the Ancient german with fallen roman.

As someone posted before, this Conte thing is definately a "Love, hate, relationship"
We would not be going back and forth here if the man did not produce an outstanding product and we all did not want more.
I know one of the biggest plastic buyers around who had a falling out with RC a few years ago. Prior to that years OTSN he told me he would no longer under any circumstances by another Conte product.
Well guess what, that was the year Conte introduced his plastic GI,s. Guess who sent me into Contes room to buy them for him, that guy.

How bout Conte buildings? Everyones pic will no doubt be the church. Agreed, but the Alamo buildings and redoubts are great too. Look good painted.I use them { and others} for Napoleonic Peninsula Spanish towns.

Vick, email me about the BOSS sets or whatever else might work for your Normandy scene. Mine sit unused.:(

I do not own any of his zulu poses but I must admit Lt. from what I see his sculpts are pretty nice. Lt. you should do if anyone ever makes some Ethiopian Italian campaign troops you should get those use your zulus as the Ethiopians, then you can also be a WW2 collector! And Fubar needs to make a slide show using some pics from his Waterloo diorama and then play the A.B.B.A. song Waterloo behind it.

Vick, My wife has ABBA GOLD and I did listen to WAterloo since I hadnt heard it in 30 years or so!
My switchman at work used to dance around to DANCING QUEEN standing by the switch! Imagine a tall swatrhy sausage chewin Kraut wino with a bald head and handle bar mustache doing dancing queen. He was a riot.Cracked everyone up on a daily basis. What a bunch of characters! We had a great time at work just being crazy UNPC longshoreman.Laughed at each other until the tears flowed.I miss'em.

More ZULU's LT!!! They wait is almost over. I think?

Harold Nice Paint jobs on the Alamo building i did get myself the Conte Alamo.
Playset 6.... I painted one building and failed badly :( after seing yours i might
have to give it another go.
I dont plan on using them for Alamo any more just to BIG.. will use them for something else.
I like the Lunette that came with the set and when i get it painted i will give it to the 1812 Russians..
Anyway what got me back into this Hobby was Conte Civil War Figures.
I walked into a toysoldier shop in 2003 saw some painted metal figs and was
hooked...:D
