Hey gang:

While at the Symposium this weekend, I was impressed with the amount of females in attendance. I have enjoyed the various stories we post discussing how we manuever our parcels or barter our souls with our significant others to obtain some long lost toy soldier treasure that suddenly appeared this month....right around payday...as they always seem to do ^&grin

That being said, has anyone's partner/children/grandchildren taken their first steps into the hobby??

My 10 year old daughter enjoys her Schleich barn and farmstead which she proudly displays and manicures. it has been fun watching her arrange her horses and ponies. I plan on posting some pictures of her work once we move back in and I replace some of her items which were damaged in our house fire.

My little guy Andrew always seems to throw a corgi jet plane or papo knight into the mix whenever we go to Gettysburg and kick around at the shops.

My wife, well, I showed her the Jane Austen series from Britains and she scoffed at Mr. Darcy- "he doesn't look enough like Colin Firth" so I think she's out still ^&grin

Just curious if you guys are starting to see some of the resistance morph into controlled interest from the "opposition" ^&grin

Another great thread idea, Chris!:smile2:

As you saw at the Symposium, my son Alec is very into the hobby, and, in fact, has declared that he will share his collection upstairs with me. He also knows exactly what he has been given, and loves to point out to any visitors which items are in fact his. I hope he retains an interest, as it is fun for me, and more importantly, educational for him.:wink2:

No not in terms of collecting a range herself but, she is very interested in what I buy and why. She was brought up in a military family lived on an airbase in the UK and, has two marine brothers so, its already an interest for her.

Very cool- how about the brothers??? They look at your stuff and say, "yeah, I need to get into this hobby?"

Nope, nadda, nothing for me I am all alone in a sea of toy soldiers. Which is not really a bad thing as I don't have to share space or funds :p

No, the last time I saw them both they just mocked and said they do it for real. When her Dad passed away I got his collection as nobody else wanted it. so, I suppose in that respect my wife has a bigger collection than I do!!!!

Nope... Wife - no interest at all.. Daughter thinks it's stupid. Son thinks it's kinda cool, but he's not interested..

That's ok - I don't really mind at all.

My mother likes the women that Britains makes, and from time to time gets one, but they mostly end up with me:rolleyes2:^&grin. She does, whoever, enjoy them, and lets me display them wherever I want! So I guess I am one step ahead of some of you guys^&cool^&grin. It was really depressing^&grin when I was talking to a couple of kids in my class, who have all seen my collection, and I was relating one indecent of anti-toy soldier sentiment from someone's wife, and one girl in my class observed that she could "see why someone's wife wouldn't like the hobby." Darn:mad:.
-Sandor:salute::

I like the hobby but, its not exactly enamoured in excitement and attraction for some. Its like stamp collectors and train spotters its cloaked in the anorak image. I am lucky with my wife but, some of my mates have terrible times with their partners and wives and, I have seen when they tell friends etc what they collect its like saying you have dodgy ailment!!

I am sure you will get a lot more responses like that

My girlfriend digs it but my wife and boyfriend hate it :)

^&grin^&grin^&grin

Wife - completely disinterested
8 yr old daughter - Cool, as long as they're in pink and purple DPM
10 yr old son - Cool, 'cause Daddy thinks they're cool. He gets the occasional metal and wodges of plastic, although has started developing an expensive taste for mainstream metal, thanks to dealer Gande, who let him try his first metal set for free. There are laws against that sort of thing.......
16 yr old nephew - Cool, right up to the point he discovered alcohol and 1:1 scale girls :rolleyes2:

My son ignored my soldiers and went for cars and trucks. My daughter liked the Papo figures at the Hobby Bunker so she got some when we went together. My wife is cool with my hobby and occasionally gets me to make portrait figures as gifts. I had a girlfriend waaaay back that thought my Cliff Sanderson Pirates were "degenerate". That alliance was doomed.

I have a cousin who likes them.I gave him some civil war figures but as he is 66 he ended up giving them to his 17 year old grandson who really likes them but can't afford them yet.

My wife's boyfriend's girlfriend like them too.^&grin

My wife thinks that I have already too many (what about her shoes? :rolleyes2:)
My boys (13 & 15 yo) think they are cool especially since their friends think they are the coolest thing ever...
My daughter (11 yo) thinks they are little and cute...

My Fiance' shows support for my growing collection. Everytime I get new items she
likes to see them and pick out her favorites.I think people that stick their nose up in
the air when collecting toy soldiers is mentioned change their tune once they see the items up close in person and view the detail involved in their construction.Once
they get an idea for what a few King&Country figures sell for their eyes open wide in amazement !!!! ^&grin ^&grin ^&grin

No interest, support, excitement or anything like that from the family, my wife, daughter (17) and son (15).
At this point I am perfectly satisfied that my collecting gets quietly accepted :wink2:
Bet a lot of us would have a very lonely stand if we wouldn't have the forum to share our hobby and enjoy.
