In the years 1937-40 many thousands of Italian citizens, mainly peasants, were invited to move to Libya to colonize and cultivate the lands forming part of the so-called 'Italian Colonial Empire'.
Many rural villages with typical fascist architecture were built in a short time to accommodate the families who had decided to settle in the Libyan territories of Tripolitania and Cirenaica.
I replicated the scene of one of these settlements at the emigrants arrival.
The last heirs of those families were definitively expelled by Gaddafi in 1970.
